Getting There
Nearly everyone arrives by the autoroute or by train from Geneva. However, Chamonix—with Courmayeur on the other side of Mont Blanc—is ideal for visitors who have skied in Italy and who want to work their way up through Switzerland and France. The Mont Blanc tunnel reopened in March 2002, but we still suggest you check on its status before choosing whether to drive or take the train. The TGV leaves Paris at around 8 a.m. and arrives in Sallanches at about 1 p.m. There is also a special train/bus combination, with the train departing from Paris just after 7 a.m., a change to bus in Annecy and arrival in Chamonix before 1 p.m.A taxi from the Geneva airport will cost about €120, and a bus from the airport to the resort costs about €30.
