Itinerary & Highlights
Day 1 LimaArrive in time for an afternoon orientation tour of Lima's historic heart. Wander under hundreds of ornate balconies and admire the beautiful colonial buildings. Don't miss the majestic Monasterio de San Francisco and its impressive catacombs.
Day 2 CuzcoRelax among the colonial churches that surround the central plaza or explore the Incan spiritual sites of Sacsayhuaman and Tambo Machay. For those looking for an active warm up to the trek ahead, there may be the opportunity to go rafting, horseback riding or mountain biking.
Day 3 Sacred ValleyOverflowing with Andean charm, Incan ruins and stunning scenery, the Sacred Valley awaits. Start up a poncho collection at the artisan markets, ramble over imposing fortress ruins and spend the evening in the ancient town of Ollantaytambo.
Days 4-6 Lares TrekAfter a morning in the village of Qeshwarani, head up through the valley to the indigenous community of Cuncani. Camp in the shadow of snow-capped mountains and the following day cross over a high pass and admire stunning views of Mount Veronica. Descend through a landscape dotted with llamas to camp by the beautiful Ipsaycocha Lake. The final day is all downhill to Patacancha, the finishing post for a spectacular trek. Take an evening train to Aguas Calientes, the gateway to Machu Picchu - one of the world's most spectacular ruins.
Days 7-8 Machu Picchu/CuzcoRise early to travel to Machu Picchu in time to see it emerge from the mist. This ancient, mystical city is breathtaking and must be the ultimate Incan experience. In the late afternoon return to Cuzco. Celebrate a challenging but rewarding journey by recounting the adventure over a pisco sour or two. |
