The Lofoten Islands of Norway
The Lofoten Islands have long been considered the most scenic holiday destination in Norway, especially by the locals. Steep mountains are lined by golden sandy beaches and emerald green seas, with small fishing villages nestling in between. There are many wild and beautiful anchorages and pretty harbours for us to explore. It is a mere 50 miles from Bodo on the mainland shore to these beautiful islands.
Spend the days sailing amongst this spectacular scenery, and the evenings on board or exploring ashore. Relax and let us look after you!
Voyage Highlights
• Sail 35 to 45 miles per day amongst stunning scenery, with 24 hour daylight we have plenty of time to make harbour.
• Relax in the late evenings either with a drink on board or in a local bar ashore.
• Stroll along spectacular white sandy beaches, or climb the hills for spectacular views.
• Try your hand at fishing.
• Anchor in a secluded bay.
• Barbeque on board.
• We expect to sail approx 200 nm during this week.

Itinerary
& Highlights |
| |
There are literarily hundreds of places to visit in this cruising area. The actual itinerary will be decided each week to make the best use of the weather, and to visit and explore as much as possible. To give you some idea of what could be achieved here are two example itineraries based on my favourite places from the last time I visited this stunning area.
This is a example itinerary A
Day 1 – Arrive on board 1800. Welcome reception, introductions and itinerary discussion. Dinner served on board at 2000.
Day 2 – Breakfast followed by safety briefing. Sail north from Bodo through the islands and anchor at the wild and beautiful anchorage in Indre Vettoysundet. Look out for the eagles that are often seen here. (25nm)
Day 3 - Sail further north to the fishing harbour Tranoya, where there are several art galleries to visit and a pub in an old whaling boat. (35nm)
Day 4 – Sail across the Vestfjord to the Lofoten Islands and visit Trollfjord for a lunchtime stroll. The scenery in this narrow fjord surrounded by sheer cliffs is stunning. (25nm) Late afternoon return and anchor for the night in the spectacular anchorage at Ulvagen. (10nm)
Day 5 – Sail along the coastline and stop in Nusfjord for afternoon tea, (35nm) before continuing to Reine for the evening. (10nm)
Day 6 – Sail east across the Vestfjord to the mainland arriving late evening, and spend the night in Kjerringoy. This is a 19th century trading port, which has been turned into a museum to show what life was like back then. (45nm)
Day 7 – After a morning looking around the museum we have a short sail to the island of Landegode, (18nm) and the chance to walk ashore on the golden sandy beaches. From here it is only 8 miles to sail across the sound to Bodo. Arrive in Bodo late evening.
Day 8 – Breakfast, depart.
This is example itinerary B
Day 1 – Arrive on board 1800. Welcome reception, introductions and itinerary discussion. Dinner served on board at 2000.
Day 2 – Breakfast followed by safety briefing. Set sail west across Vestfjord to the island of Vaeroy, arriving late evening. The island teems with nesting birds and there are easy hikes to see them. It is also possible to scramble to the top of Mahornet for superb views.(45nm)
Day 3 – After spending some time ashore on Vaeroy we have a short (20nm) sail to Reine, with another spectacular hill to climb, or for the less ambitious a gentle walk to a mountainside lake.
Day 4 – Head north from Reine to Nusfjord for a lunch stop (10nm) before continuing on to Heningsvaer (20nm), known locally as the Venice of the north. This is a beautiful old fishing town with a great fish restaurant.
Day 5 – From Heningsvaer head east past the islands of Skrova to Gullvika. Here we anchor in a sheltered bay and go for a walk ashore. There are lakes to the north that are possible to walk to, collecting blueberries on the way. (25nm)
Day 6 – From Gullvika sail south east across the Vestfjord to the island of Grotoya. Here there is an excellent scenic anchorage amongst an archipelago of islands. (35nm)
Day 7 – Sail south from Grotoya amongst many spectacular islands, and past the bird and nature reserve at Hjelloya before arriving at Bodo. (35nm)
Day 8 – Breakfast, depart. |
