In just one exciting week this trek explores some of Iceland's most impressive landscapes, from the rugged coast through to dramatic volcanic highlands.
We walk through the south Iceland region called Fjallabak ('Behind the mountains') which holds an immense concentration of different volcanic scenery. Our route follows the Eldgja volcanic fissure, passing craters, lava flows, lakes and canyons.
The area also sits between the Vatnajokull and Myrdalsjokull icecaps, and not long ago was buried under half a kilometre of glacier ice. It is the combination of 'fire and ice' that has created this fascinating geological wonderland.
