Travel into Europe's northern reaches and explore the winter landscapes of Lapland. This is an active trip with plenty of opportunities to enjoy the snow-covered forests and discover the culture of the Sami people. The region's magical feel is enhanced by the mysterious and ethereal Northern Lights dancing in the night sky.

Sami Culture
Experience traditional Sami culture and life, including sleigh rides before heading into the wilderness. The Sami are the indigenous people of this part of Sweden who live a semi nomadic lifestyle. Try your hand at igloo building and ice fishing before relaxing in a traditional sauna.

Dog sleds and snowshoes
The quiet winter landscape of northern Sweden is best explored using the traditional methods of dog-sledding and snowshoeing. Driving a team of enthusiastic dogs is an exhilarating experience – make sure you hold on tight as the dogs won’t stop! – and the trees give way to wide expanses of snow as you cross the many frozen lakes. Travelling by snowshoes allows you to get off the tracks and onto the fresh snow.

A night in the Ice Hotel
Sweden’s famous Ice Hotel is rebuilt to a new design every year with ice from the local river. At -5°C, this might be the coldest hotel room you’ll have experienced, but a thick sleeping bag and a reindeer pelt blanket will keep you snug, and there is a sauna available if you need to warm up some more. You can even have a go at building (and sleeping in) your own mini ice hotel, in the form of an igloo.
