Beginners Kitesurfing Holidays to Prasonisi

The kitesurfing in Prasonisi is great for all levels, although during the peak season due to the huge amount of windsurfers we would only recommend it for beginners and advanced riders. The very flat water on the off shore side has a shallow area for beginners (with very good boat cover if needed) making for very fast progression.

For the more advanced kitesurfer having super flat water and waves off the same beach is most peoples idea of heaven!


The wind in Prasonisi is very strong and very reliable, normally you would expect 25 - 26 days per month of 20 - 30 knots !! It's the NW "Meltemi" trade wind that blows across the whole Med in the summer. Hot weather in mainland Europe creates a very dry and very stable high pressure which funnels this NW wind through the Greek Islands. Due to local topography, the wind funnels through the island opposite Prasonisi and the large hill behind it Prasonisi will usually have a force stronger than elsewhere on the island. The windsurfing season is May to mid October with the strongest winds in July/August.

The local wind is a thermal effect so it's best in the summer months. It's worth noting that the wind here seems to be dominated by local effects so the windguru forecast doesn't bear much relation to the actual conditions.

Itinerary / Highlights

The beach at Prasonisi is very large and open so offering plenty of room for learning the first steps of kite flying. With the choice between waves that break onto a sandy bottom, wind blowing onshore, which allows your first time on the water to be totally safe as there is no current or rocks, and on the other side there is a spot of perfect flat water, wind blowing offshore, perfect for cruising. The beach shelves very gently on both sides with soft sand under foot and shallow for about 20 meters. There is no specific kiting area on either of the sides. Private kiters can purchase rescue cover directly from the FBC centre.

FBC Prasonisi is an IKO recognised centre which means that they teach according to an international recognised standard and can issue the IKO Kiteboarder card. Kitesurf courses are run on an individual 1 - 1 basis by fully qualified instructors. So basically this is private instruction and you will have the instructors undivided attention for the length of your course. Courses include equipment and safety cover.

Accommodation Details

LIGHTHOUSE I & II:-
This accommodation is located in two buildings in heart of Prasonisi. Owned for the last 20 years by Asemeni and her sisters, you are sure of a friendly welcome. The older Lighthouse I is located directly on the beach and Lighthouse II just a stones throw from the beach and their beach front bar/restaurant.

Oasis:-
The Oasis hotel is directly on the beach facing the spot, a superb location! The hotel is run by Giannas and his family who pride themselves in providing a great service. The hotel has a large restaurant/bar facing out to the beach and Windsurf / Kitesurf spots.

Prices do not include kit insurance that can normally be arranged locally at approx 35 euros.

Most kitesurf schools will only rent equipement if you are iko level iii or equivelant (riding up wind). Some school will rent to level ii kitesurfers but may charge a 30% supplement for 'supervised rental.'

Kit rental is only available for students who have completed their course successfully
