Capetown to Mountain Gorillas via Johannesburg

From Capetown, through the Great Karoo, the Okavango Delta and north to those magnificent mountain gorillas.

Itinerary / Highlights

Days 1 - 5 - South Africa - Leaving Cape Town we head East through the Great Karoo heartland and cross the Orange River. After stopping at the "Big Hole” in Kimberley, we then continue to Johannesburg where you can visit Soweto and the gold mines amongst other things.

Days 6 - 12 - South Africa, Botswana - Leaving Johannesburg we head up into Botswana and across to the delta to have a true wilderness experience amongst the wild animals and their habitat. From there we head up to the Chobe River for an afternoon boat cruise. It's then to Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe for
activity at every corner.

Days 13 - 19 - Zambia, and up to the Capital of Lusaka, then up the Great East road to enter South Luangwa National Park. One of the few parks in Africa where Night Drives are available, and a chance to see some of the nocturnal animals of Africa. Then into Malawi.

Days 20 - 26 - Zambia, Tanzania - To the shore of Lake Malawi next, to try your hand at Altitude and Freshwater Scuba Diving, horse riding and sailing. Up to Chitimba and the chance to hike Livingstonia, then into Tanzania through the Baobab valley, and to the Indian Ocean at the African City of Dar es Salaam. From here you can head to the Spice Island of Zanzibar.

Days 27 - 33 - Tanzania, Kenya -After a few optional days on Zanzibar the tour heads up through the Usambara mountains, past Kilimanjaro and Meru to Arusha. From here you can take an optional trip to the Serengeti National Park and the Ngorongoro Crater conservation Area. From here it is then into Kenya and up to the leafy suburb of Karen.

Days 34 - 40 - Kenya - Uganda - Leaving Nairobi we pass the dramatic landscape of the Rift Valley to the highlands of Kenya. Crossing the border at Malaba we drive through rain forests and tea and sugar plantations to Ugandas capital, Kampala. Crossing the equator we camp on the shores of Lake Bunyonyi. Near here we trek to the famed Mountain Gorillas.

Days 41 - 48- Uganda - From the city of Kampala we arrive at Jinja on the shores of Lake Victoria. You can spend an action-filled day white water rafting down the Nile, bungee jump, fish on Lake Victoria. Give up a day of your holiday to volunteer for the local community education project.

Returning to Kenya and Nakuru Town, we stay at Kembu a working farm. We spend a day at Lake Nakuru, viewing game in a park famous for its soda lake surrounded by thousands, sometimes millions of pink flamingoes. From here we return to Nairobi with the chance to feast at the renowned Carnivores Game Restaurant.
