A fantastic program whereby you learn to surf during the day, and help conserve the endangered sea turtle population at night.
Surf Lessons:
Samara is renowned for its variety of waves which make it ideal for both beginners and advanced surfers alike.
First week: you will have a two-hour lesson per day for four days (one hour of instruction and one hour follow up).
Second week: you will have a two-hour practice everyday with the instructors. Practice will be done either on Samara beach or Buena Vista beach, dependent on participants' ability.
Your volunteer role will include the following:
1) Patrolling the beach to look for sea turtles and their nests mostly during the night.
2) Collecting the eggs you find on the beach, and taking them directly to the hatchery (“vivero”) for their protection.
3) Collecting information on the whole process by monitoring the hatchery and keeping track of every event.
4) Release “neonatos” (little sea turtles) from the hatchery, taking them to the beach and into the ocean.
5) Helping with the maintenance of the facilities of the project (the shelter), and helping to keep the beach clean (during the day).
