Itinerary
& Highlights |
| |
Day 1: Arrive in Kathmandu or Chengdu.
Day 2: City tour, Kathmandu or Panda breeding centre, Chengdu.
Day 3: Flight to Lhasa.
Days 4-6: Lhasa - explore this fantastic city including guided tours of the Potala Palace, Jokhang Temple, Drepung & Sera Monasteries.
Days 7-10: Long, tough yet scenic days lead across the Khamba La and Kora La (passes), along the shores of Lake Yamdrok Tso to Gyantse. Once an important trading town, Gyantse retains a feel of old Tibet.
Days 11-12: Visit Pelkor Choede & Gyantse Kumbum before the short ride to Shigatse. Tashilumpo Monastery, seat of the Panchen Lama contains a huge statue of Maitreya and elaborate, jewel encrusted reliquary chorten.
Days 13-14: Cross the Yulung La (4950m) and the highest pass of the trip, the 5220 meter Gyatso-La to Xegar.
Days 15-17: A stunning ride through Qomolangma Nature Preserve to the top of the 5200m Pang-La (pass) for a superb panoramic view from Manaklu to Shishapangma. Reaching tiny Rhongphu Gompa at 5000, the view is utterly spectacular! It is then 7 kilometres to Base Camp at 5200m.
Days 18-21: Back to the Friendship Highway where another two high passes give a last, spectacular view of the Himalaya before leaving the Tibetan Plateau, descending to Zhangmu on the China-Nepal border.
Days 22-24: Completing border formalities, the ride back to Kathmandu continues down the Bote Koshi Valley. You will be transferred to the airport for your flight. |
