Day 1
Arrival and check in at the Husky lodge located at the sleddog kennel. We say Hi to the dogs, and we show you how to harness the dogs, trying the sleds & go through the technique. We take a look at the equipment, get your gear and after a nice dinner we look at the map and pack for tomorrows adventures.
Day 2
Early morning we pack the car and set of to the mountains. We will start at Storulvån and we set of towards Sylarna. Hopefully its nice weather and we will see the mountain we are about to mount. This day we will pass Sylarna Station and set camp southeast of the mountain. Every day we set camp it’s the same procedure. First take care of the dogs, put them on the night parking and give them a check up. Prepare food, melt snow, put up the tents … it’s a lot to do before we can eat and go to sleep. Night in tent.
Day 3
Our first morning in the mountains… after the dogs and our self had breakfast, we are on the way! Today we will go around Sylarna and pass the boarder to Norway. This time of the season gives us long days, and in clear weather we have enormously nice views in front of us all day. Take some time to do snowshoe walking around the camp after your chores! Night in tent.
Day 4
Mornings in the mountains are the best… this silence and the calm you don’t find anywhere else and the coffee never tastes better. But when the dogs wake up and we are getting ready to go it’s nothing like silent around the dogs anymore… they want to run!
We head to Sylarna Mountain station, here we spend 2 nights in beds and eat by a table.
Prepare for tomorrow, it’s time to do some alpine climbing! Night at station.
Day 5
Today it’s time to attain the summit. After breakfast you meet the mountain guide. You do the tour with snowshoes but it’s possible to rent skis on the spot if you prefer that, for this you have to be a really good skier. It will be a long day with a lot of sweat, but once you reach the peak, I’m sure you fell it’s worth it! At 1,762 m. and located in Norway, the peak is the goal for most people, though Temple Valley is a good alternative if you want to avoid heights or if the weather worsens. The name comes from the closest sacred feeling that presents itself when you get furthest into the valley and are surrounded by steep mountain sides. A classic alpine challenge is to go and climb the Syl traverse – a ridge hike that includes several of Sylarna’s peaks. Your dog sledding guide stays with the dogs and when you arrive back at the station the dinner is served and you can have a nice shower and sauna. Night at station.
Please note!
If the weather not allows tours to the top we arrange other activities depending on weather. This can be tours to other tops, hiking in the valley, course in mountain safety and bivouacs.
Day 6
Before having breakfast, we feed the dogs. They need some time to rest before running, so we have lots of time to eat a nice breakfast. We pack our things and soon we are on our way. We leave Sylarna and head back to civilisation. Enjoy your last day on the sled, the dogs have about 20 km to run today and the tracks are normally nice and easy. I’m sure you will look over your shoulder more then ones to get a last glimpse at the magnificent mountains you now leaving. Back to Storulvån we pack all tings in the car and drive back to Huskylodge. After shower and our last dinner together maybe we have time to take a look at all nice pictures we taken.
Day 7
After breakfast its time to say goodbye to the dogs, the guide & Jämtland. Hopefully, with a lot of nice memories that will last for a lifetime!
