Itinerary / Highlights

Day 1 Negombo
Find a comfortable perch to watch the local fishing boats heading out to sea. Otherwise, stroll along the beach to see the daily catch drying in the sun.

Days 2-3 Anuradhapura
Admire the 12th century palace at Panduwasnuwara and the rock fortress of Yapahuwa, before touring Sri Lanka's most significant ancient city by bicycle.

Day 4 Polonnaruwa
Cycle to the remains of ancient Polonnaruwa. Sri Lanka's famous granite Buddha sleeps peacefully among the ruins.

Day 5 Dambulla Caves/ Sigiriya
Stretch the legs with a steep climb to the top of Sigiriya. The magnificent 360 degree views are worth the effort.

Days 6-7 Kandy
Sniff out fragrant herb gardens then head to Kandy for a performance of traditional dance. Be sure to join pilgrims as they visit the sacred Temple of the Tooth. Visit the Pinnewala Elephant Orphanage and see both young and old elephants feed, play and bathe in the river.

Days 8-10 Bandarawela/ Haputale
Head to the cool, green climes of the highlands. Learn the secrets of local cuisine and walk through lush tea plantations.

Days 11-12 Mirissa
Soak up the sun, relax on the beach and take a dip in the calm clear waters of Mirissa. For the more active there is the option to hire a bike and ride to nearby fishing villages.

Day 13 Galle
Observe Hindu rituals at morning prayers and explore the colonial town of Galle. Watch the sunset from the ramparts of the town's fort.

Days 14-15 Colombo
Say goodbye to the lovely south coast and catch up on some shopping in the country's commercial heart.
