Gauja Canoe Experience
If you fancy escaping from Riga's hustle and bustle and being ‘at one with nature’ – then this is definitely the excursion for you! You will spend the day boating down the River Gauja, providing you with the best vantage points from which to enjoy the sandstone cliffs and virgin forests of Latvia’s most beautiful valley.
The river Gauja is Latvia's most beautiful and dramatic river. Stretching 450 kilometres, it flows from the Baltic Sea all the way east along part of the Estonian/Latvian border. The river passes through the stunning Gauja National Park, which has hundreds of square miles of forest and grasslands.
During this amazing canoe expedition you will spot countless wildlife by the banks of the river, pass sandy beaches, a medieval castle as well as some remarkable cliff formations, and have the chance to truly 'get away from it all' for several hours. The Gauja National Park is home to a wonderfully diverse array of bird life, while windmills, ancient churches and decaying manor houses dot the landscape all around.
The Canoe Expeidition Down the Gauja includes guides, lunch, return transfers and all equipment. It is ideal for large groups.
For an extra €20 per person you can be transported to and from the river by minibus. If you go for the mini bus option we will stop off at a shop to purchase provisions. If you opt for the train option it is important you purchase some food and drink before hand.
