The first flight is known as a “Trial Lesson” and it provides an excellent opportunity to sample the delights of gliding. The flight is taken with a fully qualified BGA instructor, in a dual controlled glider or motor glider and lasts for around 20 minutes depending on weather conditions. The One Day Course gives a further two flights with extra gliding fun for those that wish a deeper understanding of gliding, or for those that just want to experience our sport to the full.
Day Courses are booked in advance. On arrival, after completing a membership form, the new pilot will be given a briefing by their instructor, which usually takes place near the glider. Then it’s time to get strapped in and ready for the launch. As well as savouring the view and experience, the instructor will demonstrate how the controls fly the aircraft and encourage the new pilot to take over and enjoy all the fun and freedom of flying. As the aircraft descends, the instructor will again take command and gently bring the glider back in to land. The rest of your day will be agreed with your instructor, and will generally depend on the weather conditions of the day.
*Gliding is a weather dependant sport, and as such your day may need to be rescheduled.
