It comes as no surprise that the island paradise of Sri Lanka makes the perfect destination for a golf vacation. Enjoy a game of golf in a truly unique and exotic setting - such as the Victoria Golf Club. This wonderful club is rated among the 100 most beautiful golf courses in the world by Golf Digest. As well as playing golf and staying in some of the island's most lovely accommodation, Sri Lanka will mesmerise you with her stunning hills and valleys, tropical rain forests, tea plantations, ancient cities, pristine remote villages and gorgeous, tropical beaches. . .
A laid back game of golf is truly a sport of skill, patience and above all, class. The game of golf was rumoured to have been played in Sri Lanka (then Ceylon), by the occupying Dutch, as far back as 1656. However, the history books tell us that the game of golf was established by the British somewhere in 1860.
The Royal Colombo Golf Course
Located in the heart of the city, the Royal Colombo Golf Club has played a prominent part in the development of the game in Sri Lanka. Brilliantly landscaped, the course is immaculately maintained and the clubhouse offers a taste of colonial Ceylon. The course designer is unknown - founded in 1879, it is the oldest club in the country. The course length is 6560 Yds - Par 71. The club is easily accessible as it is a mere 20 minutes drive from all first-class hotels in the city. Caddies are available. The Golf course is flat with broad fairways featuring many water hazards. At the 6th, you may encounter the Kelani Valley train which runs across the fairway. Whilst the course is within the city limits, it remains amazingly calm and tranquil. This is a superb old Colonial British Club and well worth a visit!
The Victoria Golf Course
Nestled in the hills, the Victoria offers wonderful views of the tea country. It is a Par 73 and is 6945 Yds in length and is about 30 minutes from Kandy. You will save money at this course with the Open Fairways Golfer's Passport. Caddies and Ball Spotters are available for hire and are probably advisable as the course is a tight, challenging, hilly course with the scenic surroundings of the Knuckles Range on the shores of the Victoria Reservoir. This is one of Asia’s finest and most interesting Golf Courses with a 18 hole Championship layout. Designed by Donald Steel in 1999, the course is described as amongst the 100 most beautiful courses in the world.
The Nuwara Eliya Golf Course
At 6200 feet above sea level, this course offers wonderful views of the tea country. Located 112 miles from Colombo, at the base of Mount Pidurutalagala, it is 6037 Yds in length and a Par 71. Save money at this course with the Open Fairways Golfer's Passport. It is 2360 Yds above sea level and is a tight, challenging hilly course with scenic surroundings, tight fairways, dense rough and water which comes into play on 6 holes. It is recommended to play it in the dry season and to hire a caddy. This is one of Asia’s finest Golf Courses.
