Grand Canyon - Whitmore Wash to Lake Mead

Spend the night at Bar 10 Ranch before a scenic morning helicopter flight into the Canyon. Raft five major rapids while heading west into the Lower Canyon.

This shorter section of the Colorado River is a good trial for folks not sure they are ready for a longer Grand Canyon rafting trip. We meet you in Las Vegas and transport you by van and small plane to Bar 10 Ranch for an afternoon of Arizona ranch activities including horseback riding, horseshoe pitching, hiking and skeet shooting finished with an evening of country entertainment.

The next morning, you fly by helicopter into the Grand Canyon where your rafting guides await your arrival at Whitmore Wash. We'll cross the shattered Hurricane fault zone before heading west into the final majesty of the Lower Grand Canyon.

This Grand Canyon rafting trip on the Colorado River provides excellent opportunities to hike and explore this exquisite desert wonderland. Several beautiful side canyons invite you to linger in spring-fed streams. Your Grand Canyon adventure ends with a jet boat ride across Lake Mead from where we return to Las Vegas by van.

Itinerary / Highlights

Day 1
We meet promptly at 11:00 AM at the Las Vegas McCarran Airport. The meeting place is in the main
terminal (Terminal 1) on Level Zero. From baggage claim take the escalators down to Level Zero. The
escalators are located east of the baggage claim information desk with signs above directing you to Level
Zero. The group will meet in the lobby. Please don't be late. The Vision Air representative will drive
you to the North Las Vegas Airport where you will board your flight to Bar 10 Ranch. You will need
to bring a government issued photo ID in order to check in for your flight (photo drivers license or
passport are acceptable―required for passengers 18 years and older).
A short van shuttle ride to the North Las Vegas Airport and then board the small plane for the 30-45
minute flight to Bar 10 Ranch. After lunch you are free to participate in any of the activities that the ranch has to offer. Finish the day with some country-western entertainment provided by the ranch hands.

Day 2
The aroma of a country breakfast gently awakens you. Following breakfast, you'll fly by helicopter to the
river’s edge at Whitmore Wash where your river guides await your arrival. After repacking your gear into
the waterproof bags and a safety talk, we’ll load the rafts, slip into lifejackets and start down the river.

Day 3
Your hunger is soon satisfied in the churning waters of 205, 209 and 217 Mile rapids which discount the
myth that all the good whitewater occurs above Whitmore Wash. We spend a delightful, splashing, funfilled day discovering this. More than just whitewater, however, the trip affords an opportunity to hike and explore this exquisite desert wonderland.

Day 4
Our last full day on the river, we slip past Diamond Creek and then enter the lower Granite Gorge. We
make our final camp at, or just above, Separation Rapid. As we setup our final campsite, we feel a
strange sense of loss – our adventure is coming to a close. The stars seem extra lovely tonight.

Day 5
In the morning you board the jet boat for the journey downstream and across Lake Mead. From here you
travel by van shuttle (approximately 3-hour ride) to the Las Vegas McCarran International Airport. Expect
to be there between 1:00 and 3:00 PM. Due to possible traffic delays and security checks we do not
recommend you reserve a flight for departure prior to 5:00 PM.
