Guided Trad Climbing Safari

Two hours drive from Dahab, you find the High Mountains of St Catherine. The village itself is very nice, nestled against the mountains in a beautiful Protected Area. Most famous for its religious significance (this is where God gave Moses the 10 Commandments), there is a whole new kind of pilgrimage taking place these days - the climbers!

Your guide in St Katherine is Dave Lucas. After 6 years as a frequent visitor to the Sinai for extended stays & expeditions, Dave is now living in St Katherine & working with the Bedouin here. This is fabulous for the climbing, as he's very experienced:

Every Climbing Safari is tailored to the experience & preferences of the climbers, but here's a nice way to spend 4 or 5 days climbing St Katherine. Most people like to trek up Jebel Mousa (Mt Moses or Mt Sinai) as well, so we've included this in the plan. Up to you though - everything is flexible around here!

Itinerary / Highlights

Day 1: Depart Dahab on the 11pm bus. Arrive StK village around 1am & walk up Mt Sinai to watch the sunrise.

Day 2: Descend from Mt Sinai in the morning light. Time to visit St Katherine monastery, then relax for the rest of the morning. About noon, meet your St guide, Dave Lucas. Quick lunch, then an afternoon climb near to the village. Make final arrangements for the safari, then dinner & relax. Overnight Fox Camp.

Day 3: load up the camels & leave about 9am. Trek to Jebel Um Hashur for an early lunch. There is a cave here that will be your home for the next 1-2 nights. Full afternoon climbing.

Day 4: Full day of climbing

Day 5: Our last day is a half day scramble & 10km walk out. There are beautiful areas in this part of the desert, and it's nice to take the last day to explore a bit. From Abu Sila you'll return to Fox Camp then transfer back to Dahab.

This is a great chance to explore a beautiful part of the world, learn a bit about the flora & fauna of the area, do some amazing crack climbing and have a great time!
