Trekking the World Famous Lycian Way in Turkey
The Lycian Way is a long-distance footpath in Turkey around part of the coast of ancient Lycia. It is approximately 500 km long and stretches from Ölü Deniz, near Fethiye, to Hisarcandir, about 20 kilometers from Antalya. It is waymarked with red and white stripes, the Grande Randonnee convention. The Sunday Times has listed it as one of the world's top ten walks.
It takes its name from the ancient civilisation which once ruled the area. The route is graded medium to hard; it is not level walking, but has many ascents and descents as it approaches and veers away from the sea. It is easier at the start near Fethiye and gets more difficult as it progresses. It is recommended that you walk the route in spring or autumn; February-May or September-November. Summer in Lycia is hot, although you could walk short, shady sections. The route is mainly over footpaths and mule trails; mostly limestone and often hard and stony underfoot.

Itinerary / Highlights
LYCIAN WAY- EASTDAY 1: ARRIVAL (EVERY SUNDAY & TREKKING BEGINS ON MONDAYS)
Flights to Antalya. Transfer from airport to hotel. Overnight in Kemer.
DAY 2: MT. OLYMPUS - BEYCIK
In the morning we drive to the Tahtalı Dağ (Mount Olympus) and take the cable car up to the summit. From here you have a breathtaking view of the surroundings. Then they go from the top down until after Beycik. Overnight Kemer
DAY 3: GOYNUK VALLEY
Drive to the summer village Göynük. It’s an interesting route, the landscape is changing very often, great valleys and wonderful views down to the seaside of Olympos Mountain (moderate to challenging, 12 km; +650m -400 m +300m; 6 h). Drive by bus to Cirali.
DAY 4: TEKIROVA - MADEN – CIRALI
After breakfast we will drive to Tekirova, to start the hike. The trail goes along the coast to Cirali (easy to moderate, 12 km, +200 -200m, 4-5 h). During the entire hike, we will enloy the maritime air and the views of the breathtaking coves. Finally we will be walking through the ruins of Olympos.
DAY 5: CIRALI – ULUPINAR
We start the hike directly from Cirali to the Chimera, where the eternal flames are stil burning. The further ascend will bring us to other fire pits, which only a few people get to see. At this hight, one can get an enormous view down to the gulf of Cirali. Afterwards we will descend to Ulupinar, which is famous for its trout farms. (moderate, 10 km, +350 -200m., 4-5 h).
DAY 6: CIRALI - MOSES MOUNTAIN – ADRASAN
After having walked four days, we surely are ready for the challenging parts. Todays destination goes from Cirali to Adrasan. Via route, we will pass by the Moses Mountain and reach a height of app. 720m over sea level. On our way, we can admire the ruins of Phoinikus and the spectacular Tahtali Mountain’s Peak. At the end of todays hike, we will reach the beautiful Adrasan Beach which is surrounded by the mountains. (challenging, 20 km,+700 -700m, 8-9 h ).
DAY 7: ADRASAN – KARAOZ
Adrasan via Kizil Sirt (450m) to Gelidonia Lighthouse (200m).We start and walk gently rising slope until we come to a pass. After that the path is parallel to the sea with great views of islands. Then we descent to the lighthouse where time seems to stand still. We transfer back to Antalya .Today we are crowning the Lycian way with a hike to the Light Tower of Gelidonia (challenging 15 km, +400 -300m, 6-7 h). Starting the day by Adrasan, we will ascend to the Light Tower of Gelidonia, which became the classical Picture of the Lycian Way. At the end of the hike, we will be picked up to be transferred to Antalya. Overnight Antalya.
DAY 8:
Transfer to airport and fly home.
