Jebel El Tih Passage
Moses' people were lost in Jebel El Tih for 40 years, and you will realise why on this safari! This is an incredible landscape, known only by the local Bedouin. 7-9 days.
This is a very nice extended (9 day) program, with pick up and drop off at Cairo or Sharm El Sheikh airport. 7 or 8 day programs are also possible - just ask!

Example Itinerary:
Day 1: Cairo airport (or Dahab/Sharm)-Serabit El Khadem
Pick up from Cairo airport (or Dahab/Sharm)
Drive to Serabit El Khadem, stopping along the way for tea breaks and a bit of site seeing
Overall, we take it easy today as you will be tired after flights/etc.
Day 2: Serabit El Khadem-Jebel El Tih, by jeepView of Serabit El Khadem
Enjoy our first morning in the desert with fresh baked bread and Bedouin tea
Drive to the base of Serabit El Khadem. The temple was first a Pharonic temple, built by the Egyptian turquoise miners to the ancient goddess Hathor. In later years, it was also used by the Hexos people as a place of worship.
Walk to the top of Serabit El Khadem using the Hexus road (about 1.5 hours). Some time to explore the ruins, then lunch while we enjoy the views.
Descend along the Pharonic road.
Stop for tea with the Bedouin people in Serabit El Khadem village.
Drive through Wadi Elsend to the foot of Jebel El Tih.
Dinner and camp at the base of the Tih.
Ein JurgaDay 3: Passage to Ein Jurga, by camel
Today is an incredible day. Even someone who has been to the Sinai many times will be amazed by the places you will go!
In Arabic, the word for a path up a mountain is Naggup. We ascend the Tih using Naggup Rawegna.
Along the way, there is a cave. Long ago it was used in the winter months by the Bedouin for shelter from rain and cold. Lunch.
After lunch, continue up Wadi Rawegna to Ein Jurga. Ein Jurga is a large deep pond, fed by a natural spring. The spring will be our first water after 3 days of traveling - so you will know the feeling of finding water after a long time in the desert!!
Dinner and camp at Ein Jurga.
Day 4: Ein Jurga to Ein Abu Miteygna, by camelEin Abu Metegna
We spend today trekking from oasis to oasis.
First, Wadi Naga to Ein Abu Hameyta, a palm tree oasis names after the fig trees that grow here. Lunch & rest.
For the afternoon, our camels will go one way and we go another. Our route takes us through 1 km of deep canyon - incredible for us but difficult for the camels. Even at the height of summer, there is a small river running through this canyon.
We meet again at Ein Abu Mitaygna - another palm tree oasis. You will be amazed at how much fresh water the desert holds!
Dinner & camp above Ein Abu Mitaygna.
Day 5: Ein Miteygna to Wadi Lareesh, by camel
Today is a long trek. In total, we cover 25km, but it won't feel like you've walked that far. The pace is easy, and there are lots of tea breaks to keep us going.
Morning trek to Wadi Algsheeta, where we find wells and a spring.
Lunch in Ein Algsheeta.
Wadi Lareesh CampsiteAfter lunch, join the ancient road to Wadi Lareesh. This wadi is full of Tarfa trees - so many that the name for this wadi means 'forest'!
Sleep in Wadi Lareesh.
Day 6: Wadi Al Maghara, by camel
We spend all of today hiking through Wadi Al Maghara, a long clay-bottomed canyon.
Lunch in Ain Al Maghara, a small palm tree oasis.
Towards the end of afternoon, stop for our last night in the Tih.
Dinner & camp Wadi Al Haghara.
Day 7: descent from the Tih-Hamayir, by jeepHamayir
Today we descend from the Tih.
Morning descent to Ain Warssa, half way down the mountain.
Lunch at Ain Warssa.
Final descent to base of Jebel El Tih.
Meet our jeep and drive to Rummlat Hamayir for some fun on the sand dunes!
Dinner and overnight Hamayir.
Day 8: Wadi Baba oasis
Wadi Baba is a beautiful palm tree oasis descending from Rummlah to the Gulf of Suez
Drive to the foot of Wadi Baba
Spend the day exploring the oasis, lunch/dinner & overnight
Day 9: Red Sea Bedouin Settlements & depart
One day at the sea before returning to the airport to depart.
Descend from Wadi Baba
Visit small Bedouin settlements along the Red Sea, including Hammam Pharoni hot springs if we have time
Transfer to SSH or Cairo airport & depart - life will never be the same again :-) |
