Jhomolhari - Trekking in the Land of the Thunder Dragon
Visiting Bhutan is a truly once in a lifetime experience and should be on every adventure travelers list of places to visit. Trekking in Bhutan is a hugely rewarding way to explore this enchanting land. The Jhomolhari trek, the country’s finest, explores the western region of the country close to the Tibetan border.
The trek passes through mountain villages and farms into a deep wooded valley before climbing into alpine pasture and the lower slopes of the Himalaya. The views from the high points of the trek, of the Bhutan Himalaya are simply unbelievable.
Spectacular campsites, beneath some of the country’s most impressive and unclimbed 7000m peaks, including Jhomolhari itself are a further highlight of the route. Numerous isolated dzongs (temple) and scattered settlements, including the extraordinary village of Laya, also provide a great deal of cultural interest en route.
Please note that we also run pioneering mountain biking trips in Bhutan, as well as bespoke private group tours (groups can be as small as 2 people). Please contact us for details. |

Accommodation & Center
Details This trip involves both hotel accommodation and camping.
All of the hotels and guest houses that we use have been carefully selected to combine the best of locations, service and ambiance. In many of the hotels and guest houses you will find yourself staying in building of traditional Bhutanese architecture. Offering a style of their own, it is hard not to be charmed by the beautiful, colourful and traditional furnishings.
Away from the towns and cities, hotel and guest house accommodation is limited. However the opportunities for camping in Bhutan’s pristine forest or deep in the mountains are superb. Some of the campsites you will experience whilst trekking here are amongst the finest in the Himalaya and there can be few experiences to match sleeping out under the stars under some of the clearest skies you have ever seen, with the world’s greatest mountain range as the backdrop. The camping service is first class and you can expect spacious tents, dining tents and tasty and nutritious food to complement the activities of the day.
