An excellent new trekking adventure holiday walking in Jordan from Dana to Petra. Our walking begins out in the Dana Nature Reserve. From here the trekking takes us on hunters trails through deep gorges and walking across high ridges. Nights in Jordan whilst trekking will be spent camping Bedouin-style with the local guide and crew. Walking over a final escarpment, we reach the spectacular Monastery which heralds our arrival at Petra, recently voted for inclusion amongst the worlds New 7 Wonders. Trip Guide
On this trip we will be trekking through a desert world that has been crossed by nomadic people and their livestock for generations. Nowadays, the area is just about accessible by 4WD vehicles and there are rough roads to the various camping places that we will use. We will be trekking on scant trails, however, far away from the route taken by our support vehicle. The underfoot conditions will include dry wadis, open sandy desert and rocky desert known as hamada. There are also sections of narrow trail across rocky terrain including some easy scrambling. The tracks and trails we use are generally not difficult. We will walk for an average of 5 to 6 hours on each of days 2 to 6, covering as much as 15 kilometres each day and with a reasonable amount of ascent and descent. Because this is a short trip, and at low altitude, we have given it the MODERATE grade.

Itinerary / Highlights

Day 1. Rendezvous at the group hotel in Madaba. A single timed group transfer from Amman Airport is provided. Otherwise KE group package services begin with the overnight at the group hotel.

Day 2. Transfer by bus to Dana reserve. Trek to Wadi Feinan where we make a traditional Bedouin bivouac. We can choose to sleep out under the stars or in a tent.

Day 3. Trek from Wadi Feinan through a landscape of dunes and mountains, passing Byzantine ruins to our camp in the dry canyon of Wadi Barwas.

Day 4. Leaving the wadi we climb up into the mountains following ancient Bedouin trails. We cross two passes to reach the green valley of Reis al Feid, where we camp beside the river.

Day 5. We climb back into the mountains for a spectacular day of trekking offering far reaching views before descending once more to camp at Shkaret Umseid.

Day 6. Leaving Shkaret Umseid the trail weaves through rock canyons and onto a high plateau area where the mountains of Petra come into view. We then descend to our camp at Beidah.

Day 7. Our trek today finishes right at the site of Petra arriving by way of a spectacular trail along the cliffs. After exploring the site with a guide we check in to our hotel in nearby Wadi Musa.

Day 8. Today we return to Madaba, driving via the Dead Sea and Mount Nebo. We overnight in Madaba at the group hotel.

Day 9. In the early morning there is a single, timed group transfer to the airport where KE group package services end.
