Kilimanjaro Peaks - Machame Route

Just three degrees south of the Equator is the 5,895m (19,340ft) high, permanently snow-capped Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa's highest mountain. It offers one of the best opportunities in the world to climb a peak at high altitude without needing technical climbing ability. Any normally fit, healthy person prepared for some physical exertion and exercise should be able to complete the ascent to Uhuru Peak, which involves approximately 70 kilometres of walking in total, and no technical climbing.

Itinerary & Highlights
Day 1 Kilimanjaro Airport/Marangu - Arrival day in Marangu, where we stay at a small, family run hotel at the foot of Mt Kilimanjaro.

Day 2 Machame Camp - The trek begins gently with a stroll through rainforest where monkeys and brightly coloured birds can be seen. Settle back for a first night camping on the mountain, and dine on the delicious food cooked by the porters.

Day 3 Shira Camp - From the rainforest, trek up a steep ridge into moorland and watch the vegetation become more sparse. Camp on the edge of Shira Plateau, with excellent views of the peaks of Kibo.

Day 4 Baranco - The undulating terrain makes for a good acclimatisation day. Hike across river valleys and descend to the more rugged areas of the mount for great 360 degree views.

Day 5 Barafu - Another day of ups and downs on a climb to Barafu Camp. Barafu means ice, and it's an apt name. A steep ascent through the dry desert region is broken up with views of the glaciers above.

Day 6 Summit - An incredible day of trekking. Start early to trek to Stella Point for sunrise views. Continue to trek along the crater rim to Uhuru Peak which at 5895 m (19,340 ft) is the highest point in Africa. After many photos from this exhilirating point, its time to descend back to Barafu Camp for a well earned lunch. Spend the night at Mweka Camp.

Day 7 Marangu - Continue the descent through alpine meadows and rainforest. Transfer back to civilization for a steaming hot shower and a celebratory meal. On the final day, transfer to either Kilimanjaro Airport or Nairobi.

Day 8 Kilimanjaro Airport - On the final day, transfer to either Kilimanjaro Airport or Nairobi.
