KITEBOARDING 101

Fuerteventura was always a great destination for windsurfers and now Kitesurfing has taken Fuerte by storm. With it's excellent reputation for consistant winds and flat water conditions, the resort of Correlejo in the North of Fuerteventura is the main kitesurfing center and is only a short transfer time from the airport.

The beach directly in front of the kitecentre is around 6-7 km of white sand, with just over 3 km suitable for kitesurfing. The wind is predominantly cross-shore. The best months for kitesurfing here are May to mid Sept. This is when the sea tends to be flat and the wind consistent. Wind speeds averaging 3 Bft in the mornings and 5 Bft in the afternoons.

Itinerary & Highlights

The KITESURFING CENTRE is a recognised IKO Pro center and is well respected as one of the best training grounds in europe.

Instructors
The centre have an experienced team of kitesurfing instructors who are accustomed to coaching at different levels. Most of the team have travelled extensively, have a healthy respect for the ocean and the environment and are fully qualified in their respective countries. Languages spoken include: French, German, English, Spanish, Italian, Swedish, Norweigian and Danish. The team have a keen interest in other sports such as surfing, sailing, kitesurfing, snowboarding and diving.

Coaching
We offer a wide range of coaching and tuition, from beginner up to advanced.

Safety
Safety is an important factor when participating in any sport especially water sports. The centre follows all the IKO safety guidelines and is constantly striving to create a safe environment to learn in.

Our courses follow the IKO course structure and offer you the flexibility to develop at your own pace.

Introduction Course - 2 Days (8 Hours)
Day 1
- Introduction to kites with a look at different types and sizes.
- Rigging up (inflation, connecting lines, harness and how it works).
- Launching (off the beach).
- Landing (on the beach).
- Basic Flying movement, explanation of the window, etc.
- Getting kitted out (choosing the wetsuit, bouyancy aid, crash hat).
- Finally bodydragging downwind and gaining confidence in the water.

Day 2
- This day will start with another bodydrag session, then it\'s straight onto the board to practice!
- Waterstarting
- Kite recovery from the water
- Downwind sailing
By the end of these 8 hours most people should be at a level where they can hire equipment and be competent enough to sail (fly) by themselves. You should have gained your IKO Level 2.

Conversion Course - 2 to 4 line kites - 1 Hour
This course is aimed at people who have been flying 2 line kites and now want to convert to a 4 line kite. It covers:
- Rigging up a 4 line kite
- 30 to 40 minutes flying a 4 line kite on the beach, using the de-power loop, and getting used to the feel of a 4 line kite
- 20 minutes board work on the water

Improver Course - 2 Hours
Any of the following topics can be choosen:
- Up wind sailing
- Gybing
- Jumping
These have to be done in this order, so unless you can Gybe, you can\'t learn to jump, etc.
All courses include the kites, boards, wetsuits, bouyancy aid and instructor.

Private - by the Hour
- Anytime, anything of your choice.

Water Work Only
This course is aimed at people who have done a beginner kite course elsewhere and for one reason or another were unable to complete it or feel they would like to recap on the water work to boost their confidence. They know all the theory, are competent beach flyers but just need to cover body dragging and getting on the board.

DO NOT BOOK THIS COURSE UNLESS YOU KNOW HOW TO RE-LAUNCH

We have on stock both two and four line kites, teaching on Naish R3s and four line North Rhino for more advanced clients.

The latest kiteboard arrivals are the Spider 179 and the Raptor. The Spider 179 is a bi-directional board which can be used by beginners, but also makes a great board for advanced kitesurfers in lighter winds. The Raptor is a wakeboard-style bi-directional for radical wave riding.

All our equipment is designed for beginners, intermediates and advanced kitesurfers. Safety is always a key factor. Beginners will use boards designed for both stability and safety and the instructors will select a board suitable for your size, weight and skill level. All the equipment is checked and maintained on a regular basis to ensure you have the best material at your disposal. The centre also provide a wide range of good quality wetsuits at no extra charge. Board shorts, sun block, hat, beach towels, sandals, first aid kit, waterproof disposable camera and finally lots of energy and enthusiasm.

Customize your kitesurfing trip. We specialise in providing accommodation handpicked to suit your specific kitesurfing needs, taste and pocket. For people travelling alone or on a budget, we recommend the communal kitesurf house or an Aparthotel.
