Day 1
Arrive Cairns International Airport, your guide Jon Day from OceanXplorer Expeditions will be there to meet and welcome you. We board our coach for the short transfer to the famous Yorkies Knob and visit Kite-Rite store, checkout Cairns kite sites and sample hire gear, while other international guests arrive.
By early afternoon we all transfer to the Reef flight Terminal, for our 60 minute low level scenic flight over the Great Barrier Reef to remote Lizard Island, over-night accommodation on board the Oceanxplorer live-aboard mother ship MV SuperSport in Watson’s Bay, welcome briefing and BBQ party.
Day 2
Early morning cruise to the reef for a relaxing snorkel before returning to the protected waters of the southern lagoon at Lizard Island, 7 hrs of kite-surfing with strong south easterly winds in the 25-30 kt range. Climb back aboard SuperSport in the late-afternoon for the return 30 mins cruise to our sheltered anchorage on the Northern side of Lizard Island in Watson’s Bay.
Day 3
Early morning cruise to the outer reef for a giant of an experience that you’ll treasure for a lifetime, snorkelling with the Dwarf Minke Whales on the Great Barrier Reef simply cannot be surpassed. Dwarf Minkes grow up to 8 metres in length, and are well known for their natural curiosity.
Enjoy the spectacle of migrating Humpback Whales and the very sociable Dwarf Minkes, before the unforgettable encounter in the water with these magnificent ocean creatures. Fully-certified snorkel instructors and a marine biologist are at hand to guide you through the fascinating world of the Dwarf Minke Whale and the beautiful coral gardens and pinnacles of the reef, ensuring minimal impact on this unique underwater environment.
After lunch the wind has reached full strength and we return for more spectacular kite-surfing in the crystal blue lagoon.
Climb back aboard SuperSport in the late-afternoon for the return 30 minute cruise to our sheltered anchorage on the Northern side of Lizard Island in Watson’s Bay for a gentle sea-kayak before our farewell dinner.
Day 4
SuperSport weighs anchor and cruises for 1.5 hours toward the mainland. Once we arrive at Cape Flattery, guests prepare to dis-embark in tenders for the 5 minute shore transfer to the beach of Flattery harbour. This is the site of one of the windiest beaches in Australia and one of the worlds largest sand mine at Cape Flattery.
Once there, this remote beach is yours! Your guide Ant Hadleigh from Australian Kite Surfari is the only operator to have special permission to use this beach, which is located on traditional Aboriginal lands.
There is no set itinerary and experienced guides are on-hand to provide local knowledge and expertise on the area, the wind, the flora and the fauna.
Ant Hadleigh, your Australian Kite Surfari host, has been coming to this area for over 20 years. He knows the coastal creeks, the tides, the wind and where to find the best freshwater coastal springs, right on the beach.
While you are enjoying the wind, your host ‘Ant’ will set-up camp and he has thought of everything including: eskies, bush fridge, cook pots, fishing rods, sand surfing boards, elevated tents and even a toilet tent.
At the end of the day, enjoy a hot or cold shower and kick back in front of a beach bonfire; Dinner will recharge your tanks and could be fresh fish, prawns or even a roast meal;
Climb up into your top-of-4WD Surfari tent, enjoy cooling tropical breezes and listen to the waves break gently on the beach, as you drift off to sleep.
Day 5
Awake to the morning sunrise and you guessed it more remote beach kiting as we indulge on a full day at Cape Flattery before climbing aboard the 4WD’s for the 3 hour off-road adventure to Cape Bedford. We arrive late afternoon in time for 2 hours of high wind kite-surfing, while your hosts set up camp. Enjoy our bush BBQ tucker for dinner under the stars and relax after dinner with a walk along the beach.
Day 6
Awake to the sound of the sea and you guessed it more remote beach kiting as we indulge on a full day at Cape Bedford.
Day 7
Wake up to the sunrise and get one more kite-surf in before you return home. Your hosts will break camp and load up the 4WD’s for the 2hr journey to the small village of Cooktown. Free-time to sightsee and pick up souvenirs or re-live the past with a tour through the Captain Cook Museum. Before boarding your 45 mins scenic flight south over the World Heritage Daintree Rainforest and Cape Tribulation to Cairns international Airport, and your flight home. |
