Mongolia and Kazakhstan Adventure

Enjoy the festival with more than 400 Eagle Hunters and Nomadic life of Altai Mountain!
Kazakhs are famous with its Golden Eagle, Falcon training for hunting fox and rabbit. It is one of the old traditions still alive in some parts of Kazakhstan and Nomadic Kazakhs around Altai Mountain in Western Mongolia. Today it became a part of tradition to organize festivals in Kazakhstan and in Western Mongolia especially for tourists every autumn.

During the festival you will find yourself in ancient Nomadic Kazakhs which gives you feeling of back to the past. Here you will also experience rich culture of Kazakh Nomads hospitality. Cultural shows with colourful traditional costumes, traditional games such as Kokpar (men fight, to get a goat skin from each other on horseback), Kyz Kuar (a race a man and woman on horseback) . . . . etc are really attractive.

Besides Eagle Festival and Falcon Show you will experience picturesque view of nature both in Kazakhstan and Mongolia such as Medeo situated in south of Almaty which is worlds biggest Skating Rink and Big Almaty lake one of the most attractive sight in Kazakhstan which is set high up in a gorge of the Bolshaya Almatinka river, 2, 511 meters above sea level and 28, 5 km south of Almaty. It lies in a hollow like a gleaming mirror, surrounded on all sides by majestic peaks. Plus, beautiful Altai Mountain ranges with bright blue sky, fresh air and mild climate makes you feel like you're in paradise.

Day 1. 14th Sept. ALMATY CITY TOUR & MEDEO
Early morning arrival in Almaty. Guide and driver meet at the airport. Transfer to Hotel.

City tour including State Central Museum which introduces rich culture of Kazakhs and view of Kazakh history. Also you will see palaeontology, birds animals of Kazakhstan in this museum, visit republic square, then continue to Zhenkov Cathedral Russian Orthodox Church and Museum of National Instrument located in Park Panfilov.

Drive to Medeo lunch at yurt restaurant “Kazakh aul” enjoy Kazakh traditional cuisine.
Folk show (optional) during the lunch. Continue to Medeo. Medeo is the largest High Mountain Skating Rink in the world situated in the Medeo Valley 1700 meters above the sea level which was built in 1972. It is the place that more than 120 world skating record have been set and really exciting place is surrounded by great glassier mountain ranges of Tien-Shan. In the West it is Kimasarskiy range, in the East – Kabyrgatau and in the South–East it is the Kumbel range. Here is an opportunity to take a 10-20 minute walk on the large 150m high dam overlooking Medeo was built in 1966-67 to protect the city from mudflow. The Skating rink was built in 1972 16 km from Almaty.

Day 2. 15th Sept BIG ALMATY LAKE
After breakfast drive to Big Almaty Lake, 2.5 hours drive, which includes a visit to the mud stream check dam in the canyon of the river Bolshaya Almatinka bearing the traces of the last mud streams. The rock-dammed Mountain Lake is located in the forest area of the National Park “Ile Alatau” 2511 meters above the sea level with maximum depth 35 meters and temperature of water in summer 10-12 degrees. Lunch box. After lunch we will head to see Falcon Farm by bus to experience the Falconry Show which is Kazakh traditional sport. Kazakh people are famous with training Golden Eagle and Falcons and hunt animals with trained eagle such as rabbit, fox and even wolves occasionally. Dinner Transfer to Hotel Kazakhstan 3*

DAY 3. 16th Sept, Wed. Fly to Ulgii from Almaty
Transfer to the airport.in the morning flight is at 09:20 DV725/825 to Bayan-Ulgii via Uskemen. Arrive to Ulgii. On arrival meet by local Kazakh guide. Drive to town and have tea & coffee break then continue to drive towards east (3-4hours). We will have view to the beautiful and remote country. Visit to Kazakh Eaglehunter’s family and stay with his family. (BD)

DAY 4-5. 17th-18th Sept - Go to Festival with Eaglehunters on horseback
Riding Mongolian horses, you will go side by side with Eaglehunters to hunt fox, rabbit, wilds cat and maybe wolf. So you have chance to take part in this unique hunting of Altay Kazakh people. Have picnic lunch and enjoy the remote mountain country view. You can try to hold the golden eagle on your hand to be photo taken. Stay in ger camp (Ger is a Mongolian word for Yurt – Kazakh Traditional felt house)

DAY 6-7. 19th -20th Sept, Sat, Sun Golden Eagle Festival
Meet the Kazakh Eaglehunters. Two redeo of Eaglehunting. A fantastic opportunity for photographers and adventurers alike to see these magnificent birds up close. There are approx. 400 eaglehunters in Bayan-Ulgii around the region, all gather to test their finely trained in singular contests of speed and agility in these few days. During the festival there we will see some Kazakh traditional horse games like Bushkashi - Tug of war played on horseback with goat skin, common throughout Central Asia Kyz Kuar - A race between a man and woman on horseback. Tiyn Teru - Riders compete to pick up coins from the ground during the race…etc. In the evening we enjoy The Kazakh concert with some traditional songs and music. Stay in ger camp (BLD)

DAY 8-9. 21st-22nd Sept. Mon, Tue. Explore Altai Tavan Bogd
We will drive further wast. Bayan – Ulgii is rich in archaeological remains, as a reminder of the Bronze Ages and the time of the Huns and Turkic invasions. At Shiveet Haihan Mountain, where numerous Tuvan nomads live, in Altai Tavanbogd National Park, we will pitch our camp. Shiveet Hairhan is holy for Tuvans. So there are 400 ibex there. You might see ibex if your lucky. Here we will be able to view the biggest petroglyphs from the second period of the Huns (200 B.C.). The Huns the reason for the Chinese emperor Qin Shi Huangdi to build and finish the Great Wall of China at this time. Overnight in tents.
We will do hikes in the area. There are some 20 glaciers and this is one of the few locations in the world where camels are used as pack animals in glacier areas. The weather condition is hard there this time of the year. So we will not be able to reach the area and see glaciers.
Tavan Bogd means ‘ the Holy Five” referring to the five highest peaks, of which Huiten Uul is the highest point of Mongolia, 4374 meters above sea level. Quite a considerable height at this latitude. (BLD)

DAY 10. 23rd Sept, Wed. Fly to Kazakhstan
Visit the most interesting local Museum which gives you view of rich history of Kazakhs in Mongolia as well as colourful traditional costumes and comprehensive information of flora and fauna of Bayan-Ulgii.
In the afternoon transfer to airport and fly to Kazakhstan.
Transfer to Hotel Kazakhstan 3* (BLD)
