Motorcycle tour - Terre di Sicilia
A dream trip from the loftiness of Etna dominating eastern Sicily to the grandeur of the town mansions in Noto, Modica, and Ragusa.
We will dip into the blue Ionian Sea from golden beaches and black, lava-strewn bays and stroll around charming Taormina and its Greek theatre; we will also discover the natural beauty of the Nebrodi Mountain Park.
Roads:
We will ride an 850 km. route over tarmac and very much biker friendly roads with daily stages of about 120 km.
Places: Etna, Acireale, Taormina, Catania, Siracusa, Noto, Modica, Ragusa.

Saturday: arrival at Catania
Transfer to your accommodation in Acireale and then on to Taormina in the afternoon and the bright lights of this swinging little town. Dinner in a well-known restaurant in nearby Castelmola.
Sunday: Acireale – Castell’Umberto 152 km.
After the typical Catania-style breakfast of almond flavoured granite and brioche we set off for “a Muntagna” (as the locals affectionately call Europe’s highest volcano) along the roads loved by Sicilian bikers. We will visit the Silvestri craters before heading for Montalbano Elicona, a delightful village on the north slopes of the Nebrodi Mountains, for dinner and overnight stop.
Monday: Castell’Umberto – Leonforte 161 km.
A stage running along the Tyrrhenian coast before riding once again up into the greenery of the Nebrodi Mountain Park and its many small historic villages such as Cesarò, Troina, and Regalbuto before reaching the heart of Sicily for dinner and overnight stay at the 4-star hotel and golf resort Villa Gussio Nicoletti.
Tuesday: rest day
Villa Gussio Nicoletti is a 17th-c. country mansion with all modern comforts including a health club with highly qualified personel.
Wednesday: Leonforte – Noto 155 km
After passing through the well-known pottery town of Caltagirone the discovery of the Sicilian baroque begins along scenic roads with stopovers in Ragusa Ibla and Modica before reaching Noto in the evening for dinner in a typical restaurant and overnight stay at Villa la Favourita.
Thursday: Noto – Scicli 101 km
The splendid Marzamemi, made famous by Gabriele Salvatores’ film Sud, is well worth the visit. We then ride on to Pachino, famous for its cherry tomatoes, Pozzallo and then on to reach the splendid beaches of Scicli.
Friday: Scicli – Acireale 162 km
From the beaches lapped by the waters of the Sicilian Channel we ride back along the Ionian coast to visit the old central district of Ortigia in Syracuse and then on to Catania where the unique folklore in via Plebiscito will unveil a mix of Arab and Norman traditions; you can try the famous “sangeli” or a horse-meat grill. We will stop overnight in Acireale.
Saturday: Acireale – Catania 30km
We pass along the jagged Ionian coastline bearing the signs of the many lava eruptions and ride through the coastal towns of Acireale mare, Acitrezza, famous as the setting for Verga’s book “I Malavoglia”, and Acicastello before saying our farewells in the afternoon and an arrivederci for yet another adventure under the Motoexplora banner. |
