DAY 1, Nairobi to Nanyuki
We leave Nairobi and head north towards the foothills of lofty Mount Kenya, which rises over the Central Kenyan Highlands to the east of the Great Rift Valley. We arrive at our camp in Nanyuki at in time for lunch. This afternoon there is time to relax or take a walk to the nearby caves, thought to once be the home of the famous Mau Mau rebels.
DAY 2, Mount Kenya Trek, Sirimon Track to Old Moses Camp
We take a short drive this morning to the Sirimon Gate and the start of our trek. Our trek begins at an easy incline and we climb 700m on a 4-5 hour walk, acclimatising and enjoying the beautiful scenery of montane forest, bamboo and rosewood. Monkeys, elephant and even buffalo live in these forests. Tonight we stay at Old Moses Camp at 3,300m, with great views of the Western slopes.
DAY 3, MacKinders Valley to Shipton’s Camp
Today we trek from Old Moses camp, up through the MacKinders Valley, crossing streams and traversing high moorland blanketed by grassy tussocks and giant lobelia and senecio plants. We should have clear views of the main peaks today and climb 900m in approx 6-7 hours. Tonight we stay in Shipton’s Camp
DAY 4, Point Lenana
Rising early in the morning we start our final push to the hikers summit, Point Lenana (4985m) in time to watch the sunrise. After admiring the views from the summit we begin our descent, heading down to the Meteorological Station where we spend the night in bandas.
DAY 5, Final Descent, Nairobi
We descend early in the morning to Naromori Park Gate and celebrate our successful trek. This afternoon we take our transfer back to Nairobi, arriving in the late afternoon
