Chamonix is famous for being Europe's most interesting mountain town, the services and the facilities of Chamonix are quite simply superb! Chamonix sits at the foot of Mont Blanc, (Europe's highest mountain), and the quality of alpine breaks to Chamonix have made it the most talked about and internationally recognised alpine resort in the world.
Chamonix town has a wonderful cafe culture and provides an un-rivalled level entertainment for alpine activity seekers or sight-seeing tourists. Chamonix has the greatest level of attractions for family or thrill seekers in the Alps and appeals to a very broad range of people. Apart from some of the best biking, rafting, golfing and climbing in Europe, Chamonix has attractions such as the Mer de Glace which is a 2 hour mountain-tram journey to the Glacier or the Aguille Midi Cable car which carries sight-seers to the highest peak at a staggering 4000 metres for spectacular sight seeing and views of the Alps. Walkers and day trippers can lunch at the restaurant at the top and walk around at altitude!
The Mer de Glace is another famous attraction and is a 2.5 hour train ride in the mountains and around the Glacier of Mont Blanc. There is a restaurant and stop-point half way where passengers can get out, stretch their legs and experience the glacier at first hand.
Chamonix is again renowned for it's mountain biking and mountaineering potential. These sports attract the hardened types to Chamonix, but there is also a wealth of more sedate activities on offer, such as Glacial walks or horse riding, sunbathing and more, with the exception of Skiing, Quad Bikes and Water Skiing.
Chamonix is a bustling mountain town teeming with restaurants and colourful cafes. There is as much to do off the mountain as there is on the mountain! In fact Chamonix has a bigger summer trade than winter ski trade.
