Whether you're a fanatical mountain biker out for a hard day's riding or you're new to mountain biking, all of our mountain biking routes are tailored to your exact requirements.

Aimed at cross-country mountain bikers of all abilities, our mountain biking routes will take you through the most beautiful areas of Andalucia, on remote paths and tracks, linking sections of exhilarating, (sometimes technical) single track.

We are perfectly positioned for mountain biking and sight-seeing, in the historic, beautiful and lively town of Antequera - right in the heart of Andalucia. Within easy reach of fantastic mountain bike routes and of the fabulous cities of Granada, Cordoba and Sevilla; but just 45 minutes from Malaga and all that the best resorts of the Costa Del Sol have to offer (if that's your bag!).

Our mountain biking guests have a number of accommodation options - including the luxury of private rooms at the 4-star hotel Finca Eslava - No preparing your own breakfast or shared bathrooms here! - and fantastic town houses in the heart of the historic old town.

Most of our mountain-biking routes are in the Antequera area and the "Spanish Lake District" of El Chorro and the lovely Montes de Malaga. We also organise regular mountain bike excursions to other areas of Andalucia, including the best mountain-biking routes in the Sierra Nevada - the highest mountains in mainland Spain.

Whether you're a hardened mountain bike marathoner, a complete newcomer to mountain biking, or anything in between, every mountain bike ride is tailored to your exact requirements.

All of our mountain-bike rides are led by English guides who have mountain biked in the area for years. Mountain biking groups are always kept small and well-matched so that you will never be frustrated by the lack of pace or, worse still, spend all day trying to keep up.

Itinerary & Highlights

Many of our mountain bike rides finish lower than the start point - unless you specifically want extra climbing!

For intermediate mountain bikers, we've got mile after mile of fast, technical mountain bike routes on remote tracks through stunning scenery;

For beginner mountain bikers, we've got mile after mile of mountain bike rides on rolling tracks and trails between beautiful lakes and lovely mountain villages - the white villages ("Pueblos Blancos") of Andalucia - as well as a fascinating, almost totally flat route along a disused railway line, which is widely considered the most beautiful "Via Verde" (Green Route) in Andalucia;

Whatever standard of mountain biker you are, we have a qualified coach who will, on request, patiently take you through mountain bike riding techniques, nutrition & training principles, to ensure that when you leave Rio Frio Holidays you will be a better mountain biker than when you arrived.

We offer great deals for children and we have a baby sitting & child minding service - Children under 16 only pay for mountain bike hire - not for guiding - if accompanied by an adult on rides;

For those who don't want to bring their own mountain bikes, we can arrange the hire of good quality front-suspension mountain bikes at very reasonable rates. We also have a tandem which is suitable for light off-road use.

We have secure mountain bike storage. And, for those occasions when your ambition isn't matched by your aptitude(!!), we can carry out emergency repairs on the trail.

On most Sundays throughout the year, our fitter guests are welcome to join the local mountain bike club, MTB Club Cuesta La Palma, on their regular rides. These rides range from "hard" to "very hard" (35-105 kms) and are a fantastic opportunity to meet Spanish mountain bikers and practice your Spanish language skills.

Between mountain bike rides, guests staying at the hotel Finca Eslava can make use of the hotel's fully equipped fitness centre, swimming pool and exercise classes - all included in the price! Or let us organise a round of golf, a spot of horse trekking, pro-tennis coaching, skiing, or even Spanish language training! And, when you get back to your accommodation, a soothing massage from a fully qualified sports massage therapist is always available.

Antequera is one of the most fascinating, historic, safe and attractive towns in Andalucia. Guests of Rio Frio Holidays may be accommodated in the beautifully luxurious hotel "La Finca Eslava" situated on the edge of town, but within 15 minutes walk of the town centre; or in one of our traditional, luxurious town houses, which are perfectly located in a peaceful area in the "monumental zone" - on the very edge of the old town and within 5 minutes walk (but out of earshot!) of the heart of this lively pueblo.

4-Star Hotel Accommodation

La Finca Eslava has all of the facilities that you would expect from a 4-star hotel. It is one of those attractive charming places where the romanticism of Andalucia radiates from the colour of its courtyards and from the scent of its jasmine, night jasmine and myrtle trees.

With its 30 exclusive rooms, La Finca Eslava is set in a stately 18th century Andalucian country estate in a quiet, rural environment, but only a short distance from the centre of Antequera. The rooms are all fully equipped with Internet-ADSL access, satellite TV and independent air conditioning.

Finca Eslava is also equipped with a state-of-the-art sports centre, with a 25-metre indoor swimming pool and a fully-equipped gym, to which our guests have free access. The gym offers a regular programme of fitness classes, all of which are also included in the prices of our holidays.

Luxurious Town houses

Our town houses are traditional Spanish living at its very best. Both are situated within 2 minutes walk of each other, in a tranquil location in walkable cobble-stoned streets near the 13th Century Arabic Castle with the Torcal Mountains as background. Well-designed & recently re-built in a Mediterranean style, with handmade Moorish tiles and full air conditioning & heating.

Both town houses are furnished as homes, with good sound & temperature insulation, natural products and original art. They are well-lit & fully-equipped, including kitchen appliances. The private roof terrace for each town house allows for year-round dining al fresco.

The location of the town houses is an unusual combination of tranquillity and accessibility. They lie in old cobble-stoned streets near the medieval castle, 5 minutes walk from the centre of Antequera, with nice neighbours, ample private parking on a wide, level panoramic road and a good daily bus service.

There is good mobile coverage, Internet ADSL, TV/DVD players, a good selection of guidebooks/novels/DVDs in English, French & Spanish, and the owners are on hand to lend advice and assistance whenever required.

In the sunny cathedral plaza, which is less than a 1 minute walk away, are the 13th Century Giant´s Gate, the Medieval Museum and the Arabic Watchtower & Castle with its gardens. This main plaza is reserved for pedestrians, festivals of blues, jazz, baroque & modern pop music, ballet, theatre and flamenco performances etc. It has a panoramic view of plains & mountains, overlooks the stream bed & the old Roman Spa Baths, and features an excellent reasonably priced pub/restaurant with European favourites & vegetarian selections. Also within 3 minutes are playgrounds, a pharmacy, a doctor, a bakery, food shops and one wonderful view after another - a photographer´s paradise.
