The Sossusvlei area is a wide grassy valleyand we will stay here in the Desert Homestead is sheltered by the Nubib, Tsaris and Naukluft mountains with a view reaching to the distant dunes of the Namib Desert in the west. The opportunities to explore here are endless. Moving on to Swakopmund we see the almighty Namib Naukluft Park. . For those interested in adventure, Swakopmund offers sand boarding, quad biking, dune carting, parachuting, hot air ballooning, shark fishing, deep sea fishing and beach angling to name but a few.

Our next stop is Mowani Mountain Camp located in the southernmost range of the rare black rhino and desert elephant. Home to a gigantic natural open air art gallery one of the richest collections in Africa. Other nearby attractions include the Petrified Forest, the Organ Pipes and the Burnt Mountain.

Moving onwards we take in the Ongava Game Reserve where we can take game drives in open 4x4 vehicles into the Okaukuejo area of Etosha where Lion, Elephant, Cheetah, Gemsbok, Springbok and Hartebeest can be seen at many of the waterholes in the park. In addition, night drives, hides and walks with armed guides are enjoyed on the private reserve. Ongava has resident White and Black Rhino, giving guests staying at Ongava the unique opportunity to see both of these charismatic species.

Our final destination is the Etosha National Park, a park dominated be stunning, endless pans (encompassing some 5,000 square kilometres) and waterholes where animals congregate. A perfect chance to watch game in their natural habitat and a natural spot for predators lying in wait!

   Itinerary & Highlights

  Day 1,2
Arrive in Windhoek on your international flight. You will be met and assisted with the formalities before collecting your Avis Group B (Manual, R/T and zircon – Corolla or Nissan Almera or similar) ) hire car. Set off from Windhoek on the drive to the Sossusvlei area about three and a half hours away. Situated in a wide grassy valley the Desert Homestead is sheltered by the Nubib, Tsaris and Naukluft mountains with a view reaching to the distant dunes of the Namib Desert in the west.

This lodge offers simple but stylish accommodation in thatched chalets which were designed with the fragile
beauty of this remarkable environment in mind. Tours to Sossusvlei are available or one can drive oneself there. Horse back activities are also offered.

Spend two nights on a Bed & Breakfast basis at the Desert Homestead.

Day 3, 4
After a leisurely breakfast set off for Swakopmund some four hours drive away. Drive along the edge of the great Namib Naukluft Park. Catch site of the strange prehistoric Welwitschia Mirabalis plant. Once in Swakopmund you can go on the Welwitschia Drive which is self guided and it will give you a fascinating insight into the desert environment.

The Swakopmund Hotel & Entertainment Centre, built in and around the old Station Building; the hotel combines architectural beauty with first-world comfort. It is the premier hotel in Swakopmund.
Swakopmund is ideal for use as a base for excursions into the desert and along the coast line. For those interested in adventure, Swakopmund offers sand boarding, quad biking, dune carting, parachuting, hot air ballooning, shark fishing, deep sea fishing and beach angling to name but a few.
Spend two nights at the Swakopmund Hotel & Entertainment Centre on a Bed & Breakfast basis.

Day 5, 6
Set off after breakfast along the C34 coastal road as far as Henties Bay where you turn inland onto the C35, and on to Uis approximately 130 km away. From Uis travel north on the C35 to Mowani Mountain Camp. Between the Ugab and the Huab Rivers in southern Damaraland, lies a vast and unspoilt wilderness area. It boasts magnificent desert scenery, unusual geological formations, archaeological sites and a unique variety of desert fauna & flora. Mowani Mountain Camp is located in the southernmost range of the rare black rhino and desert elephant. A gigantic natural open air art gallery is found on the rocks at Twyfelfontein.
These rock paintings are a unique natural attraction and constitute one of the richest collections in Africa. Other nearby attractions include the Petrified Forest, the Organ Pipes and the Burnt Mountain.

The lodge has an enviable reputation for excellent quality service and superb food. Day 7, 8
After a leisurely breakfast set off for the 4 hour drive to Etosha and Ongava Lodge via Khorixas and Outjo.
Ongava Lodge is situated along the southern boundary of Etosha National Park in the 30,000ha private Ongava Game Reserve.Accommodation comprises twelve air-conditioned brick, rock and thatch chalets, each with en-suite facilities. Meals are either served in the main dining area under thatch with a view over the camp\'s water hole, or on the dining deck under the stars. Activities include game drives in open 4x4 vehicles into the Okaukuejo area of Etosha where Lion, Elephant, Cheetah, Gemsbok, Springbok and Hartebeest can be seen at many of the waterholes in the park.

Day 9
After breakfast set off through the Etosha National Park, entering through the Andersonn Gate and driving eastwards. Etosha is dominated by the stunning, endless pans (encompassing some 5,000 square kilometres) and waterholes where animals congregate. You will be there in the rainy season which means that the pan should be holding water which will in turn mean that birdlime will be even better than usual.
Life in Etosha revolves around the waterholes and it is a good idea to scan the surrounding area as predators often “lie up” waiting for a suitable target to arrive! Leave the park at Fort Namutoni and check in to Mokuti Lodge, your base for the next night. Mokuti Lodge combines unique African charm with international standards of luxury. Situated right outside the gates of Etosha National Park, Mokuti Lodge offers daily guided game drives into Etosha National Park in open vehicles - the ideal African experience.

Spend one night at Mokuti Lodge on a B&B basis.

Day 10
After a late breakfast or brunch set off for Windhoek via Tsumeb, Otavi, Otjiwarongo and Okahandja – a drive of some 6 hours. Enjoy the interesting and varied countryside of this beautiful country. When you arrive in Windhoek check in to the Villa Verdi Guest house for your overnight stay.

  Each of the chalets, set under cool thatch is equipped with en-suite bathroom, air conditioning with ceiling fan, telephone, fridge, hair-dryer, safety deposit facilities, electric shaver plug (220 volts) and colour TV with various channels.

The hotel boasts a boma, restaurant, lounge, Marula Bar and Pool Bar
Dinner is served nightly in the a-la-carte restaurant, but guests also have a choice of dinner from the carvery buffet and dinner in the boma on alternating nights. The boma is a safari tradition where guests sit under thatch and enjoy a good meal and relax with a glass of wine around a traditional African fire.

Other facilities available are Ontouka Reptile Park, Oshaaluwata Curio Shop, Swimming Pools, Tennis Court, Volleyball and Bird Hide.

The villa consists of 13 standard rooms, 3 apartments and one luxury suite, set a comfortable five minutes walk from the city centre with its collection of stately buildings, bustling shopping centres, beer gardens and tourist attractions. At this time of the year, the sparkling pool will offer a welcome relief from the African heat and is the central hub of the hotel.
