Petropolis - Teresopolis
One of the most traditional backpacking trails in Brazil, a 36 kilometer (22 miles) crossing linking the two Brazilian imperial towns: Petrópolis and Teresópolis.
The crossing takes 2 to 4 days, hiking through valleys, ridges and mountaintops where Atlantic rainforest vegetation is exuberant and pristine. Several peaks are also reached during the few days in the trail, including the Morro do Açu, the Pedra do Sino, affording spectacular views of granite peaks and spires.
