The spread lies nestled in aspen trees on both sides of Drowsy Water Creek and is everything you'd expect a ranch to be. Barns, stables, corrals, log cabins, ponds -- plenty of places where kids and adults love to explore. Everything at the ranch is within walking distance. Guest cabins, the Lodge, children's playground, the fishing pond, swimming pool and games area are all within a stone's throw.

The ranch has programs for children from infants to teenagers with plenty of activities for parents and grandparents alike. Singles and couples are welcomed also. We have a complete program of horseback riding, swimming, horseshoes, steak fryes, trout fishing, western dancing, jeep trips, song fests, campfires, hayrides, carnival, pack trips, staff entertainment, gymkhana rodeos, raft trips, children's programs, nearby golf, hunting and much more -- but it is your vacation so you may take part in whatever you like.
At Drowsy Water Ranch we have a very special relationship with our 95 or more horses. We've bred, raised and trained them to provide guests with the finest of riding opportunities.

The Horse Program is outstanding and geared to every riding ability and age group. Horses are selected to match your own riding skills. Daily instruction, both in the arena and on the trail help to improve everyone's proficiency. Advanced riders have many opportunities to explore and blaze trails while handling their horses from leisurely walks to smooth lopes and gallops.

The Main Lodge is the daily gathering place for parents and youngsters alike. The door is always open and the coffee pot is always filled and fresh. A warm and friendly spot to kick-back and enjoy playing cards, browsing in the library or just visiting with new friends.
Under the same ownership/ management for 30 years, the ranch has developed a reputation for quality Dude Ranch vacations.

Itinerary / Highlights

Check In: Check in is after 2:30 pm on Sunday

At Drowsy Water Ranch, we offer our guests a vacation package with a schedule of enjoyable activities for all ages, with an emphasis on service and quality. Meals and horseback riding are our two major scheduled activities. Many of our other happenings are worked out with our guests to truly make it "your" vacation. The following is an example of some of the things that normally take place on certain days in our "regular” season.

SUNDAY: Our guests arrive in the afternoon, we serve no lunch on Sunday. We let you get acquainted with the other guests and get settled into your cabin or rooms. This evening's dinner gives you your first taste of the ranch's hearty meats followed by some entertainment and introductions.

MONDAY: This morning we have riding instructions for beginners and a clinic and trail ride for the "Old Hands" to help you get acquainted with our horses and wranglers. In the afternoon the trail rides will be heading into the mountains surrounding the ranch. Tonight it is Square Dancing time in the Tee Pee for a get acquainted evening.

TUESDAY: Today finds our regular 1/2-day trail rides heading out in the morning and afternoon. You might try the optional raft trip down the Colorado River ($40) or rent a boat on one of the lakes in the Shadow Mountain National Recreation Area. Tonight's the night for the kids to have their hayride while the adults are entertained in the lodge.

WEDNESDAY: Today's all-day Wrangler rides and the regular trail rides will explore new vistas and back-country scenery. If you wish not to ride horses there is time to relax around our heated pool and spa or take a hiking trail and find in the shade of whispering pines and trembling aspens, Columbine and Indian Paintbrush. There is also wild raspberries and mushrooms for the finding. It's nothing to see deer and elk along with grouse and eagles. This evening is country swing dancing night.

THURSDAY: This morning you can either ride your horse or jeep to our famous, hearty trail breakfast. In the afternoon you can take another trail ride or our ranch van will be available for a trip to a local attraction in the vicinity of the beautiful Rocky Mountain National Park. Golfers will usually get a group together for a try at one of the nearby courses. This evening is the Drowsy Water Carnival in the Tee Pee.

FRIDAY: Today again the horses head out for all-day or regular trail rides at their regular times. In the afternoon try a 4-wheel drive trip or the optional overnight pack trip with a night of sleeping under the stars. This evening's activity is the adult hayride while the kids play games at the ranch.

SATURDAY: Following breakfast, guests depart for all parts of the world taking with them all the wonderful memories of their Drowsy Water vacations and maybe even a few saddle sores.

September 6 to 12 '09 is set aside for a Cowgirl Camp Week. The overall activities will be similar to the reg ranch weeks, but with some additional pampering. We will be giving more options for a guided hikes (distance, elevation gain etc), a massage throughout the week, yoga classes on two mornings, mountain supper cookout, sunrise horseback ride and an afternoon at the local hot springs (it has 24 different pools). Accommodation Details

Accommodations are top-drawer and carefully cleaned everyday. Snug. Comfortable. Western styled and decorated. With the smell of clean fresh, mountain air, you'll never get a better night's rest -- anywhere!

Cabins and Lodge guest rooms have all been newly remodelled and refurbished. Our guest rooms easily accommodate couples, small families or large families and friends wanting to be near each other. One of our guests was caught saying, "Our accommodations were so cosy, I almost hoped it would rain so that I could have an excuse to stay indoors."

Dining: At Drowsy Water Ranch you can have all you care to eat - and nothing but the best!

We take great pride in our food, which is lovingly prepared from recipes handed down for generations. Sometimes gourmet and sometimes hearty western...but always delicious. "I've never had as many healthy, hearty and delicious meals in my life," we've heard someone say.
Most meals are served family style in our dining room but outdoor meals are highlights. Breakfast on a mountain top. Open hearth barbecue. Chuck wagon lunches. Sometimes, right out of your saddlebag. Each day is different.
We aim to please. Even our breads and pastries are made from scratch. But not everyone can eat like a cowboy, so let us know in advance about your special diet and we will try our darnest to accommodate your needs.

This trip includes and can accommodate special dietary requests.
