Slopes of Toubkal
The Toubkal region is home to North Africa's highest peak, an incredible array of scenic views, exquisite flora and traditional Berber villages. We experience it all on foot, staying in simple mountain huts and using pack mules to carry our things.

Itinerary
& Highlights |

Day 1 Marrakesh - Discover the charms of Morocco's 'pearl of the south' while rambling through the city's ancient quarters. In the evening head to the enormous Djemma el-Fna to watch it come alive with snake charmers, acrobats, jugglers and musicians.
Day 2 Tizi Oussem - From Imi n'oughlad, we take a leisurely walk through green terraces and beautiful wildflowers and cross the Tizi Techt pass. A downhill walk takes us to the terraced village of Aid Aissa before we head back uphill to the remote Berber village of Tizi Oussem. At 1,900m above sea level and set among apple orchards, cherry and walnut trees this is a picturesque home for the night.
Day 3 Lepiney Refuge - Enjoy fresh mountain air and lunch by a mountain waterfall as we wander along forested path. Continue to zig zag up through the Atlas Mountains to our refuge in Lepiney and wake to views of the cliffs of the Tazaghart plateau.
Days 4-5 Neltner Refuge - Test your skills and endurance as we ascend to the summit of north Africa's highest peak, Mt Toubkal. The track is rough in places and crosses an area of scree. Our efforts are rewarded with views stretching out to the Moroccan desert and along the valley that shelters Marrakesh.
Day 6 Aremd - Wind down with a comfortable descent to Side Chamharouch for lunch. We arrive in Armed in time for a walk around the village and a well-deserved rest among friendly locals. Celebrate with a sumptuous Moroccan feast in a traditional village setting.
Days 7-8 Marrakesh - The final walk is to tiny Imil where we bid our mules goodbye and return to Marrakesh. Back among the city's vibrant streets, hunt for a bargain amid the colourful souqs, or get your hard-working body scrubbed down at a traditional hammam. |
