Itinerary / Highlights
Days 1-4 BeijingWalk a stretch of the Great Wall, check out Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City and stop by Beijing Huiling, an Intrepid-supported local organisation that supports intellectually disabled members of the community.
Days 5-7 Xi'an
The ancient capital is abundant with cultural marvels including the famous Terracotta Warriors. For a change of pace, retreat to the serene Great Mosque. After dusk, devour some tasty morsels at the Muslim Quarter night markets.
Days 8-9 Chengdu/ Leshan
Visit the residents of a giant panda reserve. This region is home to spicy Sichuan cuisine, including the much-loved hot pot. In Leshan, marvel at the world's biggest stone Buddha.
Days 10-11 Emei Shan
From clear mountain streams running through subtropical rain forest to old growth forest shrouding ancient monasteries, Emei Shan is one of the most famous Buddhist sites in China and a welcome retreat from the busy cities.
Days 12-16 Yangzi River
Travel to Chongqing, gateway to the majestic Yangzi River. Cruise the river and witness the dramatic scenery of the Three Gorges, constantly changing due to the construction of the world's largest hydroelectric dam. The cruise comes to an end in Yichang.
Days 17-19 Yangshuo
A traveller's delight, Yangshuo is surrounded by hundreds of limestone peaks rising from fertile rice paddies. Cycle through the countryside and enjoy lunch in a local farmhouse.
Days 20-21 Hong Kong
Experience the electric atmosphere of this international city, which still has all the elements of Old China pumping through its veins. Summit Victoria Peak for fabulous views over the harbour and city skyline.
