Spitzbergen by Dogsled and Snowmobile
Spitzbergen is the king of Arctic destinations: nowhere else in Europe is so far north, so rugged and so spectacularly remote. This very special trip provides a comprehensive exploration of a fascinating winter wilderness. We travel by snowmobile to reach a 'frozen-in ship' for a unique 'Shackleton-style' experience - the MV Noorderlicht is frozen into the pack-ice of Templefjord and faces the snout of the dramatic Von Post Glacier.
Polar bear sightings are not uncommon near the boat, and at all times we need to keep our eyes peeled for these magnificent but potentially dangerous animals. Once back in the tiny capital of Longyearbyen we take a fantastic day trip by dogsled to an impressive ice-cave. Spitzbergen is also an excellent place to see Northern Lights at their most spectacular.
