     Surf Camps and Surfaris

Surfing in Famara (Spain) with Zoco Boardriding Adventures

Lanzarote could have been designed with surfers in mind. From October to April powerful groundswells unleash their power on the many world-class reef breaks located on the NW/NE coastline. For the rest of the year the waves are more mellow and the beach breaks provide consistent fun waves ideal for beginners and intermediates. This combined with the semi-arid, dry desert climate, hardly any rainfall plus relatively balmy water temps earns it a reputation for being one Europe's top surfing destinations.

Zoco operates Surf Camps for beginners/intermediates all year round and Surfaris for experienced surfers in the winter months.

   Itinerary & Highlights

The Surf School was founded in 1996 and has been successfully running surf camps ever since introducing people of all ages to the sport from all over the world. It is a local school run by local Canarian people and is the only one in Lanzarote that has satisfied the requirements laid out by the tourist board to become an official excursion.

All the instructors are skilled watermen who have many years experience surfing and coaching at different levels. They have travelled extensively in search of that perfect wave, have sampled many different cultures and have learned to respect the ocean and environment we live in, for those reasons alone they are perfect role models. All have qualified as Lifeguards or equivalent in their respective countries are multi-lingual and speak a good level of English. They also have a keen interest in other board sports such as kite surfing, snowboarding and skateboarding.

Whether it's your first time in the water or you want to take your surfing to the next level the centre have the coaching staff and techniques to help you achieve your goals. The school maintain a low student to instructor ratio for safety and to ensure you get the attention you need on dry land and in the water. You are also placed you with an instructor who specializes in teaching surfing at your level.

Beginners Course
Before entering the water you will learn about basic surfing techniques, rules and etiquette, water safety, types of waves, different conditions and how to use your equipment.

Once you have grasped the basics it's time to get in the water and practice under supervision of the instructors. You will be assessed on a regular basis and advised how to correct individual mistakes if necessary.
Once you have mastered getting to your feet and riding a wave the instructors will then teach you your technique for paddling out, handling your board in the waves, wave selection and how to turn your board.

At the end of the camp you will be assessed and presented with a Diploma of Surfing for the level you have attained.

Equipment
All the equipment used is specifically designed for beginners and intermediates with safety being the key factor. Beginners will use foam boards by Swell. Theses boards are designed for both stability and safety and the instructors will select a board suitable for your size, weight and level.

The school also provides a wide range of good quality wetsuits and rash vests.

All our equipment is checked, maintained and renewed on a regular basis to ensure you have the best material at your disposal.

Board shorts, sun block, hat, beach towels, sandals, first aid kit, waterproof disposable camera and finally lots of energy and enthusiasm. Oh, and reef boots for the Surfaris.
