The Inca Trail
Peru's Inca Trail offers walkers the finest combination of history and scenery to be found on a trekking route anywhere in the world. The most famous trail in South America, it winds from the rapids of the Urubamba river through mountains, cloud forest and deep jungle to the fabulous lost city of Machu Picchu - a varied and majestic landscape dotted with the remains of Inca fortifications and staging posts. Previously a backpackers' favourite, the Inca Trail has now been officially closed to all but a few licensed operators, in an attempt to protect its fragile eco-structure from over-use. As one of these few, we are now able to offer regular departures, including guides and porters on the walk, and a couple of days in the Inca capital of Cuzco (a 'must' for any visitor to Peru). Afterwards there is the option to extend your stay with a visit to Lake Titicaca or the Amazon rainforest.
4 days point-to-point walking with full porterage. Altitude maximum 4200m, average 3050m. Grade B.
