Trans Africa 33 Weeks Adventure
An incredible overland journey from the UK to Nairobi via Cape Town
Our Trans Africa trip is a true Africa overland travel expedition. And as with any travel to West Africa and central Africa, you must expect a high degree of hardship: digging the truck out of mud, sand matting in the Sahara, and still be ready to participate in the day to day activities such as buying food, cooking and gathering fire wood. You will experience extremes of climate from the heat of the desert, to torrential downpours in the jungles. We will often be isolated from the rest of the world, away from doctors and telephones, and at times food and water supplies will be limited.
But it's all worth it!
We have two specialist 4x4 & 6x4 vehicles which are used solely for the Trans Africa Expedition. They are equipped with our usual high range of equipment and comprehensive range of spare parts.
For the technically minded the November Trans will be run with an ex-army Renault 4x4, and the March departure will be run with a Scania 6x4 , both are 18 tonne rigid trucks with 300hp engines, 8 speed gearboxes (plus crawler gear), with diff locks, (all this will come into its own in some of the tough terrains encountered en route - meaning much less digging/sandmatting than encountered with normal 4x2 vehicles which can struggle in certain conditions but it will still enable us to cruise at 80-90km/hr on better sealed roads). They will also be equipped with an onboard Satellite Telephone (for emergency use as well as piece of mind when we are in those 'out of the way places') and a Global Positioning System (GPS) - a satellite positioning system, again useful when we are off the beaten track to know exactly where we are and which route to follow.
We believe all this will make life easier and safer whilst 'on the road' and add to the enjoyment of the African overland travel expedition.
