     Yachting holiday

Yachting in Korcula (Croatia) with Neilson Active Holidays

Scattered with small villages and marinas, each one offering a very warm welcome. A yachting holiday in Croatia on the Dalmatian Coast is perfect for those with a spirit of adventure with myriad unspoilt islands to explore. The thermally generated sea breeze means that mornings are light breezes, starting from calm at sunrise, often building up to steady force fours and fives in the afternoon.

The paradise island of Korcula combines the natural beauty of this region with historical towns and villages typical to Croatia. Yachting holidays start at our base in the village of Lumbarda, where a collection of shops and restaurants are gathered around the harbour.

Visiting sailors have never been so welcome, now that the political and economic stability of the area has returned. The Croat hospitality still shines through and guarantees you will be very well looked after.

You have a number of options in the first week. If you’re a complete beginner, our qualified instructors can teach you to handle the yacht in just four days. You can take the course on your own, as a family or with friends. Children aged between 13 and 15 can also join their parents on a course (this can really make a family holiday).

   Itinerary & Highlights

  • Dubrovnik - A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Dubrovnik, with history dating back to the 3rd century is justifiably called the Jewel of the Adriatic. To walk the 1940 metres of the encircling city wall is without doubt the best way to view the Old Town, or you may choose to bathe from the rocks under the walls with the local folk, or rent a four poster bed and take cocktails on the very chic Banje Beach just outside the Eastern Gate to the city. Our excursion includes all connecting transport with the sea leg of the journey on a high speed hydrofoil. Travel time is approx. 1 hour 30 minutes. A guide price for this excursion is 450 Kuna or £43 per person

• Mljet Island - The tranquil island of Mljet and its National Park, with its unique geology and stunning natural beauty. Two salt water lakes of oceanographic worldwide importance are found here, in the centre of one of which stands an exceptional Benedictine Monastery dating back to the 12th century. Our excursion includes the journey on a traditional timber vessel and admission to the National Park. A guide price for this excursion is 250 Kuna or £24 per person.

• Mostar - Situated on the Neretva river in the desert-like landscape of Herzegovina, its most famous old bridge was built by the Ottoman Empire in 1565. It is through the “Keepers” of this bridge that in fact the town got its name. Tragically destroyed during the 1990’s conflict, the Old Bridge has now been reconstructed and it, and its environs, placed on UNESCO’s World Heritage list. The excursion is by coach, 3 hours each way with 3 hours in Mostar. A guide price for this excursion is 390Kuna or £38 per person..

• Korcula Town - The alleged birthplace of one of the world’s most famous travellers, Marco Polo. We arrange our own guided tour to include a visit to the 14th century Zakrjan tower where cocktails and beautiful views can be enjoyed on the roof. Transport is by taxi. A guide price for this excursion is 50 Kuna or £5 per person, including town tour.

• Hvar Island - The island of heather, lavender, rosemary and sage, blue skies, clear seas and secluded coves and probably the most popular island on the Dalmatian coast. The ancient old town of Hvar itself is home to the oldest theatre in Europe having been constructed in 1612.

Independent travel is available to Hvar daily in the summer months, by high speed catamaran from Korcula for approx 66 Kuna or £6 per person.

• Split - Croatia’s second city, the height of Split's history came in 295 AD when Roman emperor Diocletian ordered a residence to be built there for his retirement. It took ten years to build this magnificent palace and Diocletian lived there until his death in 313 AD. After that, many Roman rulers continued to use the palace as a retreat and still clearly in evidence today, it forms the heart of the city. Old and new merge magically together in this vibrant coastal city.

Independent travel is available to Split daily in the summer months, by high speed catamaran from Korcula for approx 110 Kuna or £10 per person.
