Itinerary / Highlights
Day 1 – Arrival DayTransfer from Guilin airport, train station or hotel to Yangshuo. We will meet you when you arrive in Yangshuo to go over any details, answer any questions you may have and fit you with bikes. We’ll also take you on a mini-tour of the town to point out all the essentials and offer some suggestions on some good things to do and the best places to eat.
The rest of the day and evening is free for you to explore the town.
Day 2 – Guided by a local expert, you will be cycling through Yangshuo sublime karst mountain scenery and rural farmland to Moon Hill, 10 kilometres from Yangshuo. We highly recommend the climb up to the top of Moon Hill for the magnificent views of the valley.
Following this is a look inside one of the local limestone karst caves, again fully guided. There is the option to get wet and explore the underground streams, waterfalls, mud-pools and caverns of the Water Cave or options to take a more traditional cave tour with brightly lit caverns and geological features. After the cave visit it’s a pleasant cycle back to Yangshuo.
To cap off a busy day we’ve included a performance of Liu San Jie. In 2003, China’s most famous film director Zhang Yi Mou (Hero, Not One Less, Farewell, My Concubine and Raise the Red Lantern) designed an outdoor performance to be set in Yangshuo, using the famous limestone karsts at the confluence of the Li and Tao Rivers as a natural backdrop for his interpretation of China’s “Third Sister Liu” story (The Chinese answer to The Sound of Music). With a cast of over 800 people, the performance is a visual spectacle that is not-to-bemissed, if you visit Yangshuo.
Cycle: 25kms. The cycling between Yangshuo to Moon Hill is mostly along local dirt and designated cycling paths.
Caving: You can do as little or as much as you and the family want. There are many caves in the local area to explore. There is one near Moon Hill that is a little more main-stream and another further away where a trip will take two hours with mud caves, swimming holes and a waterfall. The choice is yours!
Day 3 – Back on the bikes again for a ride along the bamboo-lined Dragon River, visiting the Ming Dynasty Dragon and Fuli bridges.
This is the most scenic area in Yangshuo region and gives you access to Chinese rural farm life at its most picturesque. After having lunch in a Farmer’s restaurant, if there’s still time, we’ll visit one of the local markets.
Our accommodation is in renovated farmer’s cottages in Chaolong village (one the local area’s best located guesthouses) near the Jade Dragon River. We will transfer your bags to the guesthouse for you.
Cycle: Cycling along flat paths and dirt country roads. 25km
Day 4 – Today we kick off with a morning class at Yangshuo Cooking School, set in a beautifully renovated, mud-brick, courtyard home where you'll cook and then eat your own creations.
After lunch you will have free time during which you can go swimming in the local river, walking around all the local villages, rice fields and walking paths, shopping in Yangshuo or just relaxing in the gardens of the guesthouse.
Day 5 - Free time to spend relaxing or shopping in town before transferring back to Guilin airport or train station
