An Island with a Serious KICK
As far as first impressions, Mallorca looks like the perfect, peaceful island getaway. Located in the Mediterranean, this Spanish paradise has the all the holiday essentials: sun, palm trees and sand. But look a little closer and you will find Mallorca is more than just a seaside vacation spot. The landscape is a mix of beach, pine trees, sea and jutting rock that holds a plethora of options for the more adventurous visitor. For those of you who want something more exciting out of a trip than a tan, Mallorca can give you a serious taste of adventure.
This island has an activity for every taste and level of experience. You can get your adrenaline kick from abseiling, caving, horseback-riding or cliff jumping- just to name a few options. It will sound even more awesome once you figure out what abseiling and caving are (I’m going to go out on a limb here and assume you can work out cliff jumping, but please definitely do this one with a professional company who knows the ins and outs of the area). Abseiling is you, harnessed with ropes, descending down the side of a cliff, or a less dramatic rock face. It’s a controlled descent and instructors are available to make sure you are maneuvering properly down the rock, all it all it’s a fun alternative to climbing. Caving is pretty much what it sounds like, exploring caves. Way more straightforward than the US version of spelunking, or my personal favorite, the UK term- potholing. Mallorca gives you the chance to explore amazing limestone caves as well as sea caves, giving you the true “insiders look”.
Of course, given its sea location, there are lots of water-based adventures to take advantage of too. Go snorkeling and check out the underwater life, the bay outside of Estellencs is particularly popular for this. For a bigger adrenaline rush give windsurfing a go. The trick is to just keep getting back up and trying again! Sailing, scuba diving, and jet skiing are other alternatives for exploring Mallorca’s beautiful coastline- the best part is, the choice is yours.
After a day of exploring, climbing, jumping, swimming and whatever else you choose to do, you’ll want a good night’s sleep. Accommodation in Mallorca varies from hostels to private villas with lots in between. You won't encounter any difficulty finding a place to stay and one that matches your budget at that. Depending on your itinerary or preference, you can choose to rest your head somewhere with a view of the sea or more inland for views of the mountains. Camping isn’t particularly popular in Mallorca, most likely due to the fact there are very few official campsites. It’s a possibility but will require a bit more planning. Regardless of where you stay and which adventure(s) you choose, Mallorca will be a trip to remember. Visit My Destination Mallorca to uncover more about this lovely island.
