Australian Adventures Overview
Australia has a well deserved reputation as a world class surfing destination, but you will also find that many of the adventurous souls you meet on flights to Australia have come to enjoy a range of other sports and adventure activities. While Australia has a reputation for being primarily a hot continent –country, the sheer size of the place means that there are both temperate as well as tropical regions, which means that skiing as well as sun kissed surfing is possible if you visit the right location at the right time of year. For those that want to sample multiple adventure activities, the scale of the country also means that you will often need to book not only flights to Sydney or any parts of Australia with operators like DialAFlight, but also internal flights, which are used by the majority of Australians when looking to cross the continent. If you are planning a visit, here is a brief overview of some of the prime natural assets that can be accessed through flights to Australia, locations which offer excellent opportunities for adventure activity.
The Great Barrier Reef is a natural wonder of the modern world, and the largest coral reef on the planet. The majority of known species that live in the sea are located within the protective environment of reef areas, and with over three thousand individual reef systems in the Great Barrier Reef, the place in pretty much untouchable in global terms when it comes to experiencing a wonderful abundance of marine life. Cairns in Queensland is the most popular base from which to plan and execute an exploration of Reef, which while spectacular from a scuba and snorkelling perspective, can also be explored by glass bottomed boat by those with limited mobility or experience. Sailing is also popular around the Great Barrier Reef area, and obviously combines well with a diving and snorkelling holiday.
Thanks to the prevailing climate throughout the North pretty much all year round, and the south of Australia during summer, there are excellent thermal to be found in numerous locations offering excellent conditions for hang gliding, and indeed powerless glider flights. The sport is particularly popular in Sydney and the surrounding area, with several well established schools which can offer tuition to both beginners, and those with all levels of experience.
Sticking with the aerial theme, tandem skydiving is also a popular adventure activity which is easy to arrange in Sydney, and offers the chance for the complete novice to experience the adrenalin rush of free-fall. For those that fancy some vertiginous thrills of a slightly gentler nature, a walk over the top of the Sydney Harbour Bridge can nonetheless get the pace quickening quite nicely. This activity is very popular, but of course given the fact that there is only one Sydney Harbour Bridge – and so limited capacity - prior booking is often necessary to secure a place. To be on the safe side, booking this activity on or around the time that you secure flights to Australia is probably the safest bet if you want a guaranteed place, although you should be aware that strong winds can lead to cancellation on the day (with full refund).
