Free Falling into Zimbabwe
Don’t let its landlocked position fool you - Zimbabwe has plenty to offer the holiday adventurer. This African country invites you to take part in some pretty unique activities. Ever wanted to go gorge swinging? It's just what it sounds like, you strap on a harness and jump of a cliff, more or less. After free falling roughly 50 metres you are swung out into the middle of the gorge where you swing for a bit before being lowered down. There’s also the more familiar bungee jumping or abseiling, if you’d prefer.
If you’re not looking to freefall on your trip, head for the water. Just because it’s not oceanfront, doesn’t mean Zimbabwe has no aquatic appeal. The Zambezi River offers up excellent white water rafting, grade five if you can handle it. The Zambezi is also the spot for river boarding, a form of surfing adapted for the river that includes a helmet.
Victoria Falls is a must see when you visit. One of the best ways to take in the breathtaking and powerful Falls is by flying. You can head for the skies in a helicopter or small plane or you can take flight via microflight. Microflight brings you up close and personal, there is no glass or aircraft frame between you and the view, it’s a barebones approach with just you and the pilot. It’s truly a unique experience.
For a different kind of adrenaline rush, what could be more adventurous than a Zimbabwe wedding? A bit unusual, but perhaps you’ve always dreamt of a safari style union. In Zimbabwe, you can get married alongside the wildlife, with venues overlooking game parks and others offering couples the chance to mingle with the lions. It will be an event to remember for sure.
When hunger strikes, Zimbabwe restaurants have the answer. Sample traditional cuisine at cafés and garden restaurants throughout the country such as sadza, white maize worked into porridge like consistency. For a less local taste, Italian and pub style fare, as well as other standard dishes, are also available, especially in tourist hot spots. So take the dive and head to Zimbabwe, a beautiful country meant to be savoured by the adventure seeker.
