Kitesurfing In The Cook Islands
Kitesurfing is relatively new in the Cook Islands but many like Cindy Mosey, twice World Champion, have found that Aitutaki Lagoon offers one of the most beautiful and exciting venues for kitesurfing with perfect wind patterns and crystal clear water.
Aitutaki is one of the neighbouring islands to the administrative capital, Rarotonga, home to the international airport receiving flights from Los Angeles, Auckland, Sydney and Tahiti. Aitutaki is then reached by a 45 minute island hop with Air Rarotonga.
The Cook Islands receive Trade Winds from May-Oct, ranging from 15-30kts as well as passing low pressure systems in the tropical belt. On the rare occasion there is not enough wind, Aitutaki is one of the few places where you can fish for the elusive bone fish as well as exploring beneath the surface at a variety of first-rate dive sites.
Kiteboard Aitutaki operates a Kiteboarding Centre & School in the Aitutaki lagoon and can organise package holidays. The best kitesurfing in Aitutaki requires boat transfers out to the sandbars of 'Honeymoon' and 'One Foot'. Kiteboard Aitutaki can provide accommodation, boat transfers, tuition, safety and storage packages and rentals for all visitors. They carry North, Cabrinha and Airush kites and Underground boards and can provide lessons and instruction from qualified IKO instructors from beginners to advanced levels with a dedicated support boat.
