Mountain Biking in Ontario - The Bike Train

This award-winning initiative in Southern Ontario provides cyclists the opportunity to travel by train to destinations across the province including, Toronto, Niagara Falls, St. Catharines, Montreal, and North Bay. The scheme helps cyclists experience Canada's unspoiled wilderness, clear lakes, and contrasting landscapes by transporting passengers – along with their bikes – from downtown Toronto to the spectacular scenery of North Bay. The Bike Train introduces bike racks onboard select passenger rail trains, making cycling holidays easy and accessible. The initiative is dedicated to stimulating sustainable systems of transportation, making it the perfect path to the true nature-lovers' escape.

Exit the train with your bike in the city of North Bay, also known as the gateway to the North. North Bay is situated on the shorelines of the grand Lake Nipissing (the fourth largest of Ontario's lakes) and the smaller Trout Lake. With expansive lakes and natural parks so close at hand, your choices for sport and leisure activities are vast, whether you're alone or on a family holiday - if you're not worn out after the huge range of cycle trails on offer, that is.

North Bay boasts a number of excellent routes for cyclists, both short distance and within the city, or long distance across the region. The Kate Pace Way and the Kinsmen Trail covers 17.5km of multi-use paved trails from one end of the city to the other. Perfect for cyclists of all abilities – the ideal opportunity for a great family adventure! Longer distance routes include the Corbeil Circle Route – a 50km moderately difficult trip to nearby Callander – and the 100km Powassan Circle Route for the seriously adventurous among you.

Another great stop on the North Bike Train is Huntsville – providing a challenging and inspiring collection of trails in the heart of the Muskokas. Beautiful inland lakes, dense forest, and continuous rolling hills coalesce, making a ride through Huntsville a seriously inspiring cycling adventure.

Using Ontario's North Bike Train puts you in full command of creating the perfect cycling holiday across this stunning Canadian province. If none of the routes on offer take your fancy, let the open roads be your guide and explore away!
