Everest teen gets explorer’s support

When I first read that a 13-year-old  boy wanted to climb Everest, I reacted negatively. I thought this has got to be a joke, he is way too young!

But reading more about Jordan Romero it becomes clear that this boy knows his way around a mountain. He’s been to high altitude before and has some top peaks on his CV.

Mikael Strandberg says: "Jordan, go for it!"

So why the worry? His detractors, and there are many, are clearly forgetting what exploring is all about.

Human life is about pushing the limits of what others think is impossible. Or stupid. Or irresponsible. Or dangerous. This underpins all exploring.

Put yourself in the boy’s position; what an opportunity!

So I say to Jordan Romero, aged 13: Go for it!

Securing Sponsorship: It can be done!

“Mikael, can you please tell me how to get sponsorship?”

Even then it is not easy: I spend a lot of my time looking for my sponsors. So, to help, I have put together three tips for all those budding explorers keen to get out there. read more

A Guide to Fiji

Fiji Entertainment

Made up of 322 islands, Fiji’s main tourist metropolis is situated within the Yasawa group of islands. Arriving in Fiji it’s relatively easy to book accommodation and island trips, however due to the influx of travellers its normally advised that you pre book your island accommodation in advance. All flights head into Nadi, the third largest town on Viti Levu Island. From here it’s easy to head yonder to paradise; alternatively, you can explore the town centre, a bustling reflection of little India.

Most backpackers stay in Nadir for a night or two, eager to escape the crowded atmosphere for a piece of paradise. Paradise it certainly is, a real contrast from the bustling Asian beaches and the cosmopolitan beaches that wait in L.A. Nevertheless, if you’ve stopped off at Fiji it is likely encompass the wow factor of your trip, if simply for the sunsets and hammocks alone.
