La Paz is situated at a height of 3660m making it the highest 'de facto' capital city in the world (Sucre is the official capital) and the 'adventure' capital of Bolivia. The city sits in a deep valley surrounded by the higher mountains and peaks of the 'altiplano'. It's a ramshackle looking city that can seem intimidating at first glance but once you spend some time and delve deeper it has a unique character, friendly locals and a 'Bolivian style' coolness.
