This ecological paradise has been recently 'discovered' as a top kitesurfing spot on Ceara's windswept and sun-drenched northern coastline. Nick named 'The Flat Water Sea' it is situated about 1 hours drive south-east of Jericoacoara on the outskirts of Itarema. The attraction to kitesurfers is clear - the open ocean has some good wave spots and a short 100m stroll across a spit of sand brings you to the inner 'flat water sea' with consistent winds and butter flat water.

If you aren't kitesurfing or want a days rest then you have a few options, rent kayaks and cruise up the river to explore the extensive mangroves, take a quad bike safari, do a spot of fishing, check out the surf spots further along the beach or sit back and enjoy the view!
Our advice is go now! The 'island' looks like it is set to be developed further and become a major stop off on the strip of resorts between Fortaleza and Jeri.
