Rio de Janeiro is Brazil’s second largest city and the country's biggest tourist attraction. Found on Brazil’s Atlantic coast just above the Tropic of Capricorn, Rio is surrounded by about 80km of beautiful beaches and divided by rising mountains that dominate the skyline. Rio is famed for its breathtaking views which you can find atop of attractions such as Sugar Loaf Mountain and Corcovado Mountain, the home of the 130ft tall “Christo Redentor” statue (Christ the Redeemer).

nd most of Rio’s biggest and best attractions in one day, sampling a lot of Rio’s gems at once. If you are feeling a bit more adventurous and looking for a culture shock, take a tour to one of Rio’s many favelas (slums). These tours come with their risks, however are mainly safe as you visit the more visitor-friendly favelas such as Roccinha, where you get a real sensory experience of how so many of Rio’s inhabitants live.
If you are simply looking to do some sports, then there is even more to do. Rio’s famous beaches are home to the beach volleyball finals, and you are likely to see the Brazilian teams practising on Copacabana Beach; there is also lots of beach football – it is Brazil after all!
Surfing at Copacabana and Ipanema beach is rough and dangerous, providing a real test for the most experienced wave riders. Kitesurfing, sailing and yachting are all very popular activities to try too. If you are looking for something sporty but unique, check out Capoeira, a Brazilian form of mixed martial arts and dancing!
