Introducing Corralejo

The resort of Corralejo is located on the northern tip of Fuerteventura, one of the Canary Islands. Corralejo is the largest holiday destination on the island. With 11km of white sandy beaches and balmy Atlantic weather year round, it's no surprise that this is a water sports paradise. The waters around Corralejo are a clear and an intense blue, but are strongly affected by currents, making it perfect for windsurfing and kitesurfing. The town's beaches are somewhat more sheltered and have a band of volcanic rock lining the shore. Corralejo was once a small fishing village but in the summer months when the trade winds pick up, it is transforme... (Read more...)

d into a thriving town. The minor development of this town from its quiet village history makes for serene and peaceful holiday conditions.

Flag Beach is about 4km from town, looking out towards Isla de Lobos. This area has hardly developed and the windsurf centre is across the dunes, right in the middle of this long sandy beach. The windiest time in Fuerteventura is in the summer when a high pressure sits over the Atlantic and a low pressure over the Sahara. The swells which bring the best waves are more prevalent in winter, so this is a surfing dream location throughout the year.

Kitesurfing in Corralejo is suitable for all levels and there are many schools to choose from. Every year, some of the world's best windsurfers and kitesurfers compete in Sotavento, in racing, freestyle and super X events. This resort is in the south of the island however, and you'll need to rent a vehicle rented from Corralejo to make the most of the journey.

Scuba diving is unparalleled off the coast of Corralejo. Sea beds are made up of lava formations, and their crevices serve as hiding places to fish and exotic sea life. The zone is so rich in marine life that is has been declared an underwater natural park, with over 40 dive sites. Occasionally, dolphins and sharks can be spotted in these waters.

Corralejo offers a wide range of adventure activities on land as well. Horse riding, trekking, and cycling are all popular as excursions. Rocky volcanic terrain and huge sand dunes around Lobos make mountain biking a popular activity in the area. You can also visit Lanzarote, which is only a 45-minute ferry ride away; it boasts numerous watersports and land-based adventure activities.
