Visit Wales
Our role
Visit Wales is responsible for formulating tourism policy, encouraging investment in, and the development of the tourism industry, also marketing Wales both within the UK and overseas.
The mission of Visit Wales is to "maximise tourism's contribution to the economic, social and cultural prosperity of Wales"
We have close working relationships across the Welsh Assembly Government including the Department of Economy & Transport, International Business Wales, European & External Affairs, Department of Children, Education, Lifelong learning & Skills and the Communications Directorate. We are also heavily involved in maximising the economic benefits of Ryder Cup Wales 2010 and Wales Rally GB.
Achieving Our Potential, the national strategy for Wales, was launched in April 2000 and defined an ambitious vision for tourism up to 2010, it has since been extended to cover the period up to 2013. The strategy addresses the main issues of sustainability, quality, competitiveness and partnership within the tourism industry. It also provides the appropriate strategic framework, within which, public and private enterprise can achieve sustainable growth and success, so improving the social and economic well being of Wales.
